Girard-Perregaux unveils one of its most technically ambitious creations to date with the Minute Repeater Flying Bridges, a grand complication that unites acoustic artistry with the brand’s iconic Bridges architecture. Combining a minute repeater, a tourbillon regulator, and an automatic micro-rotor winding system within a fully openworked movement, the watch presents its mechanical complexity in a visually striking format. The Girard-Perregaux Minute Repeater Flying Bridges highlights the manufacture’s historic expertise in chiming mechanisms while reinterpreting the signature bridge design in a contemporary, skeletonised architecture where the movement appears suspended within the case.
The Minute Repeater Flying Bridges is housed in a substantial 46mm case crafted from 18k pink gold, with a thickness of 17.90mm that accommodates the complex movement architecture and acoustic requirements of the repeater mechanism. Its proportions are not purely aesthetic; additional internal volume allows the sound produced by the gongs to resonate more effectively within the case.

Box-shaped sapphire crystals on both sides act almost like miniature acoustic chambers, helping amplify and distribute the chimes.

On the reverse, the sapphire caseback offers an unobstructed view of the highly skeletonised movement, revealing the bridges, tourbillon, and the sophisticated chiming system. The open architecture allows light to penetrate deep into the calibre, highlighting the extraordinary finishing applied to even the most hidden components.

Integrated into the case flank is the repeater activation slide, which operates through a monobloc case-middle construction. This design eliminates the traditional opening often visible in repeater cases while improving structural integrity. A box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial side of the movement. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).

The dial of the Minute Repeater Flying Bridges is effectively the movement itself, presented in a dramatic openworked architecture that places the mechanical components fully on display. Two pink-gold bridges stretch horizontally across the dial, following Girard-Perregaux’s modern Neo-style bridge design rather than the traditional Esmeralda layout.

These bridges visually structure the movement while highlighting its symmetrical construction.

At 6 o’clock sits the tourbillon regulator housed within the brand’s signature lyre-shaped cage. In addition to regulating the movement, the rotating cage doubles as a small seconds display with a discreet seconds indicator mounted directly onto the tourbillon structure.

A slim pink-gold flange around the outer edge of the dial carries applied hour markers filled with blue-emission luminescent material. Skeletonised pink-gold hands, also treated with luminous coating, indicate the hours and minutes, ensuring legibility despite the highly technical openworked display.

Girard-Perregaux Minute Repeater Flying Bridges
The “Girard-Perregaux Minute Repeater Flying Bridges” (Ref#: 99840-52-2013-5CC) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber GP9530-2198 with 47 jewels, 475 components, and 21,600 vph. It comes equipped with a minute repeater, tourbillon regulator, and automatic winding system with white gold micro-rotor. Power reserve can last up to 60 hours, when fully wound.

Mounted on this watch is a black rubber strap with a fabric-effect texture, secured by a pink gold triple-folding clasp. The modern strap choice contrasts with the classical grand complication inside, lending the watch a contemporary character. On the wrist, the 46mm pink-gold case commands significant presence while the strap construction ensures comfort and flexibility despite the watch’s substantial dimensions.
