Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph Aston Martin F1

Back in December of 2021 we took a look at an Aston Martin inspired Girard-Perregaux timepiece that featured a gorgeous British Racing Green dial with a diamond-like pattern. Now that the 2022 F1 Grand Prix has hit the tracks, we’re greeted by the new limited edition “Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph Aston Martin F1” with the same dial, but a totally different case. The 44mm case is made of titanium and carbon with carbon that was extracted from two Formula One race cars that were used during the 2021 season. This is quite a unique aspect that may entice many motorsports aficionados into giving this timepiece serious consideration.Mounted to the case is this collection's signature octagonal shaped bezel, crafted out of matching titanium and carbon that blends in with the overall case aesthetics. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The rim portion has been engraved with the unique numeral for each of these limited editions, while the famous Aston Martin winged emblem and the inscription “FORMULA ONE TEAM” have been emblazoned directly on the sapphire crystal. It comes equipped with two rectangular pushers to operate the chronograph functions and setting-crown engraved with the GP logo tucked away between them, while also surrounded by crown guards. The black PVD titanium pushers also include the team’s trademark color scheme, with engraved accent stripes in lime green. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance reaching up to 100 meters (328 feet).Time is exhibited on the very specific British Racing Green dial, which is a color with over a century of being linked to motor-racing, since it originated at the 1903 Gordon Bennet Cup, in Ireland. This is also a distinct hue adopted by Aston Martin and appears on this dial with a cross-hatching, diamond-like pattern, similar to the vintage Aston Martin logo, circa 1920’s. Besides all the other quality factors associated with the GP Laureato model, this dial is one of the main attractions for this wrist watch. Time is read on applied hour index markers, followed by a grey ring with white minute markings. It features a Tri-Compax chronograph layout with snailed sub-seconds at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at the 9 o'clock position.  A touch of Aston Martin’s lime green accent color also appears on the dial for both the chronograph minutes hand and the central chronograph seconds hand. Plus this chronograph seconds hand includes a counterweight shaped in the form of the brand’s famous oval fender vents. There is also a date window between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions. The central hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
