Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph 8Tech
Among the many new releases at Geneva Watch Days, Girard-Perregaux has just unveiled their latest creation, the “Laureato Absolute Chronograph 8Tech”. This new addition to their lineup seamlessly blends the classic 1975 Laureato DNA with cutting-edge materials and contemporary design innovations. Since its inception in 2019, the Laureato Absolute series has been a platform for the brand's most avant-garde watches, marrying striking aesthetics with cutting-edge materials to deliver some of their most captivating timepieces. The 44mm case is made of carbon fiber and titanium composite, which permeate this case with various unique shifts in tone due to the innate characteristics of these precious metals. Mounted to the case is this collection's signature octagonal shaped bezel, crafted out of matching titanium and carbon that blends in with the overall case aesthetics. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back which allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features several purple jewels and blued screws, while the rest of the componentes exude the same monochromatic style seen on the dial side.As the brand explains “The case material is composed of unidirectional, non-braided and pre-impregnated carbon fibers, combined with lightweight titanium powder to form extremely thin layers, measuring just 0.05mm in thickness. These layers are superimposed upon one another, each orientated differently to form ‘stacks’ which are then cut into octagons, an industry first.”It comes equipped with two rectangular pushers to operate the chronograph functions and setting-crown engraved with the GP logo tucked away between them, while also surrounded by crown guards. All topped by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).Time is exhibited on a gradient gray sandwich dial with applied titanium baton-style hour index markers and a large “GP” logo at the 12 o’clock position. Circling around is a lighter gray sloped flange with a white printed minute track ring.Underneath the “sandwich” cutouts of this dial is a non-luminescent Grade 5 titanium layer. Despite the use of distinct materials this watch still possesses an overall monochromatic color scheme. It features a Tri-Compax chronograph layout with three sandblasted chronograph registers that descend slightly down into the titanium layer exposed by the indexes: a sub-seconds at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at the 9 o'clock position. There is also a date window between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions. The gray PVD-coated central hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
