The Mille Miglia collection has long served as Chopard’s tribute to one of the most celebrated road races in automotive history. Since becoming the official timekeeper of the Mille Miglia in 1988, the brand has released numerous watches inspired by the cars, drivers, and legendary roads that define the event. The latest addition turns its attention to one of the race’s most demanding stretches: the Raticosa Pass. Blending vintage-inspired aesthetics with modern chronograph performance, the new Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Raticosa celebrates a section of road that many consider the spiritual heart of the Mille Miglia.

The Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Raticosa is housed in a 40.5mm case crafted from the brand’s proprietary Lucent Steel. Measuring 12.88mm in thickness, the watch strikes a balanced proportion that feels faithful to classic racing chronographs while remaining contemporary in execution. The case combines polished and brushed finishes throughout, enhancing its vintage-inspired character.Around the rear, a closed titanium caseback reinforces the commemorative nature of the watch. It is engraved with a detailed scene depicting a historic race car tackling the Raticosa Pass, surrounded by spectators, creating a direct link to the legendary mountain road that inspired the watch.The crown is engraved with a steering wheel motif, while piston-style chronograph pushers strengthen the automotive theme. A glass-box sapphire crystal protects the dial and adds period-correct charm. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).The dial embraces a warm vintage aesthetic with its matte eggshell-coloured surface. The subdued tone creates an ideal backdrop for the black printed scales, while offering a look reminiscent of classic dashboard instruments and racing chronographs from the golden era of motorsport.The display follows a traditional tri-compax arrangement, with a small seconds register positioned at 3 o’clock, a 30-minute chronograph counter at 9 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. A date aperture is discreetly placed between 4 and 5 o’clock, while a tachymeter scale runs around the outer perimeter of the dial.Rhodium-plated hands and applied hour markers ensure strong contrast against the light background. Beige Super-LumiNova enhances visibility while reinforcing the vintage-inspired character of the watch. The red-tipped chronograph seconds hand and the iconic Mille Miglia red-arrow logo introduce subtle racing accents without overwhelming the design.

The “Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Raticosa” (Ref#: 168619-3020) is powered by the base self-winding mechanical movement, caliber ETA A322-11 with 37 jewels and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with COSC chronometer certification, a stop-seconds function for precise time-setting, and a chronograph display featuring central seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counters. Power reserve can last up to 54 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a brown perforated calfskin leather strap secured by a Lucent Steel pin buckle. Inspired by vintage driving gloves and classic racing equipment, the perforated texture enhances the automotive spirit of the watch while offering a comfortable and lightweight feel on the wrist. The warm brown tone complements the eggshell-coloured dial, reinforcing the nostalgic character of this Mille Miglia tribute.
