Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph 2023
One more lap, one more year, and that currently sums up 36 years of Chopard, as the official timekeeper of the world’s most famous regularity race for classic cars. The Mille Miglia collection was born of Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s personal passion for cars and motor racing, to highlight engineering and performance. This time around they’ve released four distinct versions of their “Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph” for 2023.The 40.5 mm case is mostly made of Lucent steel A223 for all four options, except for a two-tone version that adds 18k ethical yellow gold in the form of the bezel, crown, and pushers. Overall the cases have a polished finish for a mirror shine. On the flip-side they all come with a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. On the alloy periphery we find an engraving of the iconic Mille Miglia road sign arrow. They all come equipped with two push-pieces that activate the chronograph functions, with a setting-crown in-between them. A race-car steering wheel can be seen crafted on to the setting-crown. Plus the two-tone option includes these parts in gold. All topped by a sapphire crystal that also assists with water-resistance reaching up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on either a “Verde Chiaro” green, “Grigio-Blu” blue, or “Rosso Amarena” red dial with lacquered finish. The exception is a “Nero Corsa” black dial that keeps the color solid all the way with an engine turned pattern. In common they all use white Arabic numerals and feature a printed tachymeter scale circling around a sloped flange. There are three counters: a sub-seconds at 3 o’clock; a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock; and a 30-minute counter at the 9 o’clock position. The central steel (or gold) hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a DLC-coated luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture placed between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions with a matching tone that blends into each model's main hue.
