Chopard Mille Miglia 2021 Race Edition
Time to clock in another lap as Chopard’s Mille Miglia collection releases a pair of new editions in steel or steel and 18k rose gold for their motorsport-inspired watches. The brand has been the official timekeeper of the event since 1988 and provided special commemorative timepieces annually. This year's model the "Chopard Mille Miglia 2021 Race Edition" is dedicated to the 39th historical re-enactment of “The Race of the Red Arrow” 1000 Miglia race. The 44mm case watch is available in a stainless-steel or steel and 18k rose gold two-tone edition.
Both have a steel screw-on case back embossed with the Mille Miglia logo on a checkered flag pattern, while circling it they inscribed the racing route “BRESCIA > ROMA > BRESCIA” and the limited edition number of each individual timepiece.Mounted to the case is a steel or an 18k rose gold bezel, which both feature a black ceramic insert with a white lacquered tachymeter scale. It also comes equipped with two piston-style push-pieces that activate the chronograph functions and have been thematically embossed with a tread pattern, while the setting-crown features a steering wheel. These pushers are made of steel or 18k rose gold on the two-tone edition; despite the difference in alloy both have been polished to contrast with the satin-brushed finishing on the case. All topped by a sapphire crystal that also assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a grey dial with a circular satin-brushed finishing, plus steel or rose gold applique hour index markers, followed by a sloped minute ring that can be seen circling the circumference of the dial.
It features a tri-compax layout with two contrasting snailed silver sub-dials: a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position; plus a sub-seconds that blends in with the overall dominating grey dial hue. There is also a date aperture with a magnifying loupe at the 3 o’clock position, sandwiched between the Chopard logo and a “CHRONOMETER” inscription. The iconic red Mille Miglia road sign can be seen to the left of the date window. Other red accents were added to bright up the dial in the form of sub-seconds hands and the tip of the chronograph hand. The central sword-style hands in steel or rose gold, as well as the hour index markers of both versions have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
