Chopard revisits one of traditional precision watchmaking’s most distinctive displays with the new L.U.C 1963 Heritage Regulator, introduced as part of the 30th-anniversary celebrations for Chopard Manufacture Fleurier. Limited to only 25 numbered pieces, the new model combines an ethical 18-carat white gold case with a regulator-style dial separating the hours, minutes and seconds, alongside GMT, date and power-reserve indications. Behind that unusually information-rich display is the hand-wound L.U.C 98.02-L caliber, whose four-barrel Quattro system provides an exceptional nine days of power reserve.
The L.U.C 1963 Heritage Regulator is presented in a 40mm case crafted from ethical 18-carat white gold. Measuring just 10.30mm thick, the relatively slim case gives the complication an elegant profile while maintaining the restrained proportions associated with Chopard’s L.U.C collection.
A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the manually wound L.U.C 98.02-L caliber and its traditional Haute Horlogerie finishing. Developed, constructed and assembled at Chopard Manufacture, the movement is certified by the Poinçon de Genève, recognizing both its construction and the high standard of craftsmanship applied to its components and external finishing.
The crown provides control over the manually wound movement and its timekeeping functions, while the regulator incorporates a power-reserve display, 24-hour GMT indication and date alongside the separated time display. A sapphire crystal protects the silver-toned dial. Water-resistance information was not specified in the supplied technical material.
The L.U.C 1963 Heritage Regulator features a silver-toned dial combining a satin-finished sunburst surface with contrasting opaline sub-dials. Despite presenting six separate indications, the dial maintains a carefully ordered appearance derived from the historic regulator clocks once used by watchmakers and observatories as precision reference instruments.
Minutes are indicated centrally, while the hours occupy a separate display at 3 o’clock and the small seconds appear at 6 o’clock. A 24-hour GMT display is positioned at 9 o’clock, with the power-reserve indicator at 12 o’clock and a discreet date aperture at 6 o’clock. Blue transfers provide additional contrast while helping visually organize the various indications.
The combination of the satin sunburst main surface and opaline subsidiary displays creates subtle differences in texture across the dial, allowing the individual indications to remain distinct without making the overall composition appear overly busy. The restrained silver and blue palette further emphasizes the precision-instrument character behind the regulator layout.
Chopard Introduces the L.U.C 1963 Heritage Regulator
The “Chopard L.U.C 1963 Heritage Regulator” (Ref#: 161993-1001) is powered by the in-house manually wound mechanical movement, caliber L.U.C 98.02-L. Developed, constructed and assembled entirely at Chopard Manufacture, the movement measures only 4.90mm thick and incorporates the brand’s Quattro technology, using four mainspring barrels to achieve its unusually long autonomy. The movement is COSC chronometer certified and carries the Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark. Power reserve can last up to 216 hours, or nine days, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is a grey alligator leather strap that complements the cool tones of the silver dial, blue detailing and ethical white gold case. It is secured by a matching 18-carat ethical white gold pin buckle for a consistently understated precious-metal presentation.
The Chopard L.U.C 1963 Heritage Regulator (Ref. 161993-1001) is produced as a numbered limited edition of just 25 pieces. Like the accompanying anniversary chronograph, it is available exclusively through Chopard boutiques.
