Glashütte Original 70s Collection

Glashütte Original 70s Collection

Glashütte Original revisits the integrated sports watch with the new 70s collection, a substantial redesign of the time-and-date Seventies concept that complements the manufacturer's existing Seventies Chronograph models. The familiar square silhouette remains, but the watch has been made smaller and considerably thinner, while the former Panorama Date gives way to a conventional date display and the older Calibre 39 architecture is replaced by the modern Calibre 36. Launching in three analogue-inspired executions named Vinyl Record, Tweed Amp and Stereo Panel, the collection combines distinctly 1970s references with a more contemporary approach to proportions and mechanics.

All three Glashütte Original 70s models share a 39mm x 39mm stainless steel case measuring 9.6mm thick and 43.7mm from lug to lug. Compared with the previous 40mm x 40mm and 11.5mm-thick Seventies Panorama Date, the revised dimensions give the watch a noticeably more compact profile.

The softly rounded square case retains integrated lugs and combines satin-finished surfaces with polished edges.

A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the Manufacture Calibre 36, presented as the black-rhodium-plated Calibre 36-10 in the Vinyl Record and the rhodium-plated Calibre 36-11 in the Tweed Amp and Stereo Panel.

A 21-carat gold oscillating weight is finished with the manufacture’s skeletonized mirrored-G logo.Glashütte Original 70s Collection pic 04The screw-down crown is protected by subtle crown guards and complements the sports-oriented construction of the redesigned case. A double-sided anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the integrated case architecture incorporates Glashütte Original’s new patented Groove Lock system for changing straps and bracelets. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).Glashütte Original 70s Collection pic 05The new 70s collection debuts an embossed Hexagrid dial texture across all three versions, with each colorway inspired by an analogue object associated with the 1970s. The Vinyl Record features a silk-matte black galvanic dial with brushed embossing recalling the surface of an LP, Glashütte Original 70s Collection pic 06while the Tweed Amp uses a brown galvanic finish inspired by the fabric coverings of classic guitar amplifiers. The Stereo Panel combines the same geometric texture with a silver galvanic treatment recalling vintage hi-fi equipment. Glashütte Original 70s Collection pic 08All three watches display the hours, minutes and seconds centrally, with a conventional date aperture positioned at 3 o’clock in place of the Panorama Date found on the earlier generation. A thin outer flange carries the printed minutes and seconds track. The Vinyl Record pairs its black dial with solid white-gold hands and applied hour markers, the Tweed Amp uses solid 5N red-gold hands and markers, and the Stereo Panel contrasts its silver dial with black-coated solid-gold hands and markers.Glashütte Original 70s Collection pic 09The obelisk-shaped hour and minute hands and applied bar-shaped hour markers are treated with Super-LumiNova for improved visibility in low-light conditions. Super-LumiNova also appears on the seconds hand of two of the three executions. Together with the embossed Hexagrid surface and brushed detailing, these luminous elements add another layer of depth and functionality to the otherwise streamlined time-and-date displays.Glashütte Original 70s Collection pic 10

The “Glashütte Original 70s Collection” (Ref#: 1-36-10-04-02-86) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, black-rhodium-plated Calibre 36-10 with 27 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vph,

while the Tweed Amp (Ref#: 1-36-11-03-02-66 / 1-36-11-03-02-71) and Stereo Panel (Ref#: 1-36-11-01-02-66 / 1-36-11-01-02-71) use the technically identical rhodium-plated Calibre 36-11. Both movements incorporate a silicon hairspring resistant to magnetic fields and temperature fluctuations, along with a balance fitted with solid-gold adjustment screws and a 21-carat gold oscillating weight. Power reserve can last up to 100 hours, when fully wound.

Both employ Glashütte Original’s patented Groove Lock System, which uses a combination of levers, pins and grooves to secure the connection to the case and allow it to be released without conventional tools. The limited Vinyl Record is supplied with both the stainless-steel bracelet and a black rubber strap.
