Chopard L.U.C Strike One
Back in 2016, Chopard got a lot of buzz with the introduction of the L.U.C Full Strike minute repeater, delivering a remarkably clear sound. This groundbreaking timepiece showcased a distinctive innovation by integrating a sapphire gong directly onto the crystal, a departure from the traditional metal segment gongs. This marked a significant advancement for Chopard, not only in sound production but also in design complexity. Alongside this remarkable piece, Chopard also deserves recognition for the L.U.C Strike One, a slightly simpler yet equally exquisite chiming watch. The latest iteration of this model made its debut at Dubai Watch Week to close out the year before moving into 2014.The case with a 40mm diameter and a thickness of 9.86mm is made of 18k Ethical white gold with vertically brushed casebands, while being mounted by a contrasting polished bezel. On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features several jewels, golden gears, and a Ethical 22-carat rose gold micro-rotor engraved with the “L.U.C” emblem. It comes equipped with an integrated pusher with a crown that is also embossed with the “L.U.C” emblem. All topped by a monobloc sapphire crystal that assists the patented gong system in achieving a louder and improved resonance. Water-resistance isn’t mentioned in the official description, so we’re not sure but assume that keeping this timepiece away from water is the safest bet either way.Time is exhibited on a gray-green dial crafted from solid gold with applied rhodium-plated herringbone-type hour indices, while circling around the inner flange is a railroad-motif minutes track that’s been etched directly into the sapphire crystal. The center of the dial has been skillfully hand-guillochéd with a honeycomb pattern, which provides a subtle way of being distinguished and classy. Positioned at one o'clock is a cut-out showcasing the mirror-polished hammer responsible for the chime. The watch chimes each time the minute hand hits 12 o'clock, producing 24 chimes daily. Inside the watch, there are two barrels that enable a power reserve of 65 hours specifically when the chime function is in use. It features rhodium-plated dauphine fusée-type central hands. There is also a snailed sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position.
