Chopard L.U.C Lunar One

The Chopard L.U.C Lunar One, renowned for its sophisticated design and astronomical complications, has been refreshed for 2025 with a more compact case, refined dial, and enhanced functionality. Originally introduced in 2005, the Lunar One was Chopard’s first perpetual calendar with orbital moon phases, showcasing the brand’s mastery of haute horlogerie. This latest iteration reimagines the iconic watch with a new basin-shaped case, intricate guilloché patterns, and a quick-release strap system, all while retaining the hallmark precision and craftsmanship of its in-house L.U.C movement. A stunning combination of elegance and innovation, the new Lunar One offers collectors a timeless and refined take on Chopard’s perpetual calendar legacy.

The updated case measures 40.5mm in diameter and 11.63mm in thickness, presenting a refined and elegant profile. Made from ethically sourced 18k white or rose gold, the case features a basin-shaped design, inspired by Chopard’s historic pocket watches. The flared bezel contrasts with the narrower base, and the lugs, separately crafted and welded to the case, ensure a seamless aesthetic. Flipping the watch over reveals a transparent sapphire crystal caseback that provides a view of the beautifully finished in-house L.U.C 96.13-L calibre. The caseback showcases details such as the hand-applied Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges, the guilloché-decorated 22k ethical gold micro-rotor, and the intricate perlage on the base plate, highlighting the craftsmanship and dedication to haute horlogerie. It comes equipped with a crown that has been enlarged to 6.6mm, plus adorned with polished fluting and the engraved L.U.C logo, offering both practicality and style. All topped by a slightly domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, the case design ensures excellent visibility of the dial. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).

The dial of the Chopard L.U.C Lunar One has been meticulously redesigned, emphasizing elegance and legibility. Crafted from ethical 18k gold, the dial is available in two captivating colors: salmon pink for the white gold model and blue for the rose gold model. Both feature a stunning sunburst hand-guilloché pattern, radiating from the orbital moon phase aperture at 6 o’clock. The pattern, created on traditional lathes, reflects the meticulous craftsmanship of Chopard’s artisans.Key details include a twin-aperture big date display at 12 o’clock, framed in gold for added sophistication. Two recessed sub-dials balance the layout: the month and leap year indicator at 3 o’clock, and the day of the week with a 24-hour scale at 9 o’clock. Both sub-dials are encircled by finely snailed finishing, with a gold frame accentuating their presence. The orbital moon phase at 6 o’clock is another standout feature, depicting the night skies in both hemispheres, complete with iconic constellations like the Big Dipper and the Southern Cross.Hour markers are represented by herringbone-style, faceted indices crafted in white or rose gold, and the gold Dauphine fusée hands for hours and minutes exude classic elegance. Additional gold accents highlight the triangular indicators for the leap year and 24-hour scale, while the small seconds hand rotates gracefully within the moon phase aperture. Despite the absence of lume, the dial remains highly legible and beautifully balanced.
