Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chronograph
This “Alpine Eagle Collection” was first presented by Chopard, back in 2019 with time-and-date and time-only models. These timepieces were conceived as luxury sports watches, which is a genre these new flyback chronograph models further cater to. The new “Alpine Eagle XL Chrono” have been crafted with an integrated bracelet, out of premium quality alloys, worthy of any sports and horology aficionados consideration.The 44mm case is made of solid Lucent steel with a 13.15mm height that was required to properly house its elaborate caliber mechanism. This noteworthy Lucent steel A223 is 50% harder than normal steel with anti-allergenic and extra reflective attributes. Mounted to the case is also steel, except for a two-tone option with an 18k ethical rose gold bezel, plus a crown and central links on the bracelet of the same contrasting alloy, for an additional price. These bezels all feature exposed functional indexed steel screws, even on the gold bezeled model.It comes equipped with flanked rectangular pushers with a brushed finish that operate the chronograph functions and a screw-down crown. While on the flip-side all of these models have a sapphire exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement.Time is exhibited on very nuanced looking dials obtained through a galvanic treatment that quite alluring. We can choose between either an Aletsch blue or Absolute black color, both stated by Chopard to be inspired by the eagle’s iris. They feature rhodium-plated Roman numerals and painted hour index markers, while circling around the periphery is a tachymeter scale. There are three sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a sub-seconds at 6 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter aligned at 9 o’clock. The central dynamic faceted hands, Roman numerals, and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture placed between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions.

The “Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chronograph” (References below) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 03.05-C with 45 jewels and 28,800 vph. Power reserve on this timepiece can last up to 60 hours, when fully wound.Mounted to these watches is an integrated bracelet with a polished ingot-shaped central link and two external links with a brushed finish and bevelled polished edges, while secured to the wrist by a triple folding clasp.
