Chopard Alpine Eagle Sunburnt

Chopard's Alpine Eagle made its mark in 2019, drawing inspiration from the original Chopard St. Moritz of the 1980s, crafted by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele. This collection has since become a vital part of luxury sports watches, offering modern and captivating timepieces. Collaborating for the unique Alpine Eagle Sunburnt edition, Chopard teamed up with Shaun Daniel Allen (Shal), a tattooist, punk musician, and Indigenous artist. A share of the profits from this partnership will support programs by the Ngunya Jarjum Aboriginal Corporation in Australia. The tonneau shaped 41mm case is made of Lucent steel with a mix of vertically brushed surfaces, and polished accents around the bezel rim, and casebands all the way down into the lugs and integrated bracelet. On the flip-side we encounter a transparent sapphire exhibition caseback that allows us to view the inner workings of this upgraded in-house movement. It features artwork by Shaun Daniel Allen (Shal).Mounted to the case is a rounded bezel held in place by 8 distinct screws in pairs, aligned at each quarter hour position. Their slots have been placed at a tangent towards the bezels circle. This bezel design provides a great framing to its surrounding counterparts. It also comes equipped with a screw-down crown embossed with the iconic compass rose in a chiseled form. All topped by a sapphire crystal over dial with glare-proof coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a red-dish sunburst dial with gilded applied hour index markers and the Roman numerals (3, 6, 9, and 12), while circling around a sloped flange is a black printed minute track ring with white intervals. The brass dial bears a stunning pattern resembling the iris of an eagle, painted with a gradient of Sunburnt Red. This unique design draws direct inspiration from the eagle's eye, after which this collection is named. While variations of this pattern have been showcased before, this rendition remains strikingly impressive. Simply labeling it a "sunburst pattern" fails to capture its full essence. There is also a date aperture tucked-away between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions, with a color coordinated disc to fade into the background and let the center canvas lead. The central hands, Roman numerals and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. Further highlights the nature theme with a rhodium-plated arrow-type seconds hand with eagle feather counterweight.
