Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XPS

Integrated bracelets on sports watches always provide a solid option for adorning our wrists, which is why this category endures. Chopard debuted their “Alpine Eagle” collection in 2019 and has expanded significantly into multiple variations. The “eagle eye” inspired dial even featured a tourbillon on it last year. Now the main novelty of this new edition is the inclusion of a L.U.C movement, which tends to be equipped on the brand’s higher-end models. We always like to shine a light on worthy causes, so once again let us recall that the “Alpine Eagle” collection was conceived to support the “Eagle Wings Foundation”, which was founded by the president of Chopard, Karl-Friedrich Scheufelle. Those seeking more information on these noble efforts can do so by visiting: www.eaglewingsfoundation.org/The tonneau shaped 41mm case is made of Lucent steel A223 with vertically brushed surfaces and polished bevels. This proprietary stainless steel alloy developed by Chopard claims to boast a 50% greater scratch resistance than standard stainless steel, contain hypoallergenic properties, and provide a brighter luster than traditional stainless steel alloys. On the flip-side we encounter a transparent sapphire exhibition caseback that allows us to view the inner workings of this upgraded in-house movement. It features a small gold oscillating weight adored with a wavy pattern.Mounted to the case is a rounded bezel held in place by 8 screws in pairs, aligned at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions. Their slots have been placed at a tangent towards the bezels circle. This bezel design provides a great framing solid alternative to similar models like Audemar Piguet’s Royal Oak or the Patek Philippe’s Nautilus. It also comes equipped with a screw-down crown embossed with the iconic compass rose in a chiseled form. All topped by a sapphire crystal over dial with glare-proof coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a Monte Rosa pink dial with applied hour index markers and the Roman numerals (3, 9, and 12), while circling around is a sloped flange with a black printed minute track ring. This unique dial design is obtained through a galvanic treatment and inspired by the collection's trademark eagle’s iris, while the pink hue derives from the Alpine landscape. The central white gold hands, hour index markers, and Roman numerals have all been fitted with a Super-LumiNova filling, for an enhanced legibility.
