Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tuscan Copper

Last September we saw Bulgari celebrate the 50th anniversary of when they opened up their first boutique in the United States. To properly mark the occasion the brand released a limited-edition, US-only “Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic” and a non-limited version in a distinct alloy for the international markets. Now they’re back with a new “Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tuscan Copper” which is once again a US-only limited edition. The 40 mm octogonal case is available in stainless-steel with a mix of vertically brushed surfaces and polished accent finish. In terms of thickness, this Finissimo model measures in at a mere 6.40 mm height. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The movement has been decorated by hand with côtes de Genève, anglage and perlage finishing. Or as Bvlgari states “A true icon of the 21st century, the Octo Finissimo Automatic watch channels a rare fusion of edgy Italian design and Swiss engineering, housing the thinnest automatic movement in the world – only 2.23 mm thick”.Mounted to the case is a bezel that along with the mid-case section are both fully fixed to the back with screws. To achieve such thinness, the watch had to be topped off by a 0.3mm-thin sapphire crystal, attached to the bezel. Plus instead of a standard circular or conical shaped setting-crown, this model features a winding crown and adjustment lever located on the caseback. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).Time is exhibited on a “Tuscan copper” sunray dial with rhodium applied hour index markers and the Arabic numerals for 6 and 12. It seems the inspiration for this soft hue came to Bvlgari’s product creation executive director, Fabrizo Buonamassa Stigliani, while he was admiring the artwork of Jacopo da Pontormo. There is a small-seconds, sub-dial placed between the 6 and 9 o’clock portion of the dial. Despite taking up a quarter of the overall canvas, this rhodium applied sub-dial is very discreet. But even with such a small footprint, it still manages to be very legible. The central steel hands have a hollow center, which plays into the color scheme and provides an elegant harmony. This dress watch even dispenses the need of any luminescent filling, instead relying on any source of light to find its way.
