Breitling Top Time Triumph
A new collaboration has been announced by Breitling with Triumph, the iconic UK motorcycle company, associated with movie-stars from the 1960’s like Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando, and James Dean, among others. This joint venture has produced the new “Breitling Top Time Triumph”, which is part of their “Top Time” series, relaunched in 2020.But, for those in need of speed, to further celebrate this Breitling collaboration the UK manufacturer has released the “Triumph Speed Twin Breitling Limited Edition Bike”. Anyone that buys one of these bikes will also be offered the chance to buy a slightly altered “Owner’s Edition” of the watch engraved with the corresponding bike number. The 41mm case is made of stainless-steel with a shiny mirror polished finish and long protruding lugs for a comfortable wrist fit. It comes equipped with two mushroom-style pushers to operate the chronograph functions. On the flip-side is a steel snapped caseback engraved with the Triumph motorcycle’s motor if you purchase the limited edition version, while the regular production will have a simpler “TOP TIME” inscription. It comes equipped with a non screw-locked, one gasket, wide fluted setting-crown, adorned by the cursive Breitling “B” logo. All topped by a convex sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet). Time is exhibited on an ice blue dial with single blackened baton hour index markers, followed by a black printed minutes/seconds ring. Further out circling the flange is a tachymeter scale in white print on a black background. There are also two alternate versions available of this watch. The limited edition designated by “Owner’s Edition” that will be made available to those that also buy one of the 270 Triumph Speed Twin Breitling motorcycles, has a sun-ray brushed finish to the dial. This particular light blue hue seen on the watch is the same seen on the motorcycle. While the regular version has been nicknamed the “Zorro” pattern by Top Time collector's, which is a bowtie style design, as seen below. There are two black sub-dial in the Top Time’s signature “squircle” shape, which as the name implies is somewhere between a circle and a square. They also have a snailed interior for the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. This bi-compax chronograph layout design choice is meant to mimic the instruments on a motorcycle. The central steel hands and small squares aligned with the hour index markers, have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. The dial has also been emblazoned with both the Breitling logo (upper-half) and the Triumph emblem on the lower-half.
