A new partnership has been ignited between Breitling and the Australian lifestyle company Deus Ex Machina, which is highly regarded amongst surfers, bikers, and backpackers inspired by the open roads and a call to adventure. Together they have released a retro-themed chronograph inspired by Breitling’s 1960’s Top Time design, appropriately named the “Breitling Top Time Deus Limited Edition”.The 41mm case made of stainless-steel with a shiny polished finish and long protruding lugs for a comfortable wrist fit. It comes equipped with two mushroom-style push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions. In between those is a non screw locked setting-crown, equipped with one gasket and adorned by the Breitling “B” logo. All topped by a convex sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet). Keeping with the sporty theme and collaborative spirit of this timepiece, led to a snapped case back engraved with a Deus-style motorcycle and rider in full throttle, designed by the Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell. The limited edition “ONE OF 1500” inscription can also be seen circling on the flip-side. Time is exhibited on a silver dial with stainless-steel hour index markers, closely followed by black printed minute markers and small squared details at each hour spot. While a further layer is placed between the dial’s center and the steel bezel by a black tachymeter ring with a few orange toned highlights and the Deus motto “IN BENZIN VERITAS”, which roughly translates to “in petrol we trust, naturally”.Some may even refer to this as a “panda dial” due to its two black sub-dials: a 30-minute counter with a red-hand at 3 o’clock and a small-seconds with an orange hand at 9 o’clock. The distinctive “Deus” shield can be seen on the lower-half of the dial, while the “TOP TIME” inscription above it effectively brands this watch in a stylish and discreet manner. The unique orange central semi-hollow hour hands have squared tips, while the chronograph hand has been shaped as a lightning bolt. These along with many other subtle design features are what manage to pull off a quite original look, despite its first glance simplicity. Its actually a very busy dial that somehow seems quite clean and very legible.
