Breitling Top Time Classic Cars
Back during the “Geneva Watch Days” a few speedy watches put the pedal to the metal and would have passed us by, if not for their flashy colors.This new “Classic Car Squad” capsule collection is part of the “Breitling Top Time Chronographs”, which got their inspiration from a trio of 60’s era classic cars: the Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray, Ford Mustang, and Shelby Cobra.These watches come in 42mm cases made of stainless-steel with a shiny polished finish and solid case backs, which showcase an engraving with the logo of each sports car that inspired that corresponding model. 
Except for the “Shelby Cobra” model which comes in a smaller more compact 40mm case. 
Besides this single difference in diameter the whole collection has been similarly designed to resemble vintage ‘60’s sports chronographs. Featuring those long protruding lugs with thin angled contours, which besides providing a comfortable wrist fit, also enhance their overall presence.
They come equipped with two piston-style pushers to operate the chronograph functions, which pair well with the motor-sports theme.
In between those is a non screw-locked setting-crown, equipped with two gaskets and adorned by the Breitling “B” logo. All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. Water-resistance on all these watches can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet). The Breitling “Chevrolet Corvette” (red) and “Ford Mustang” (green) models share a similar layout with white printed hour index markers, followed by a ring of thinner minutes/seconds markings. Plus a black tachymeter scale written out in red font, and two sections highlighted in orange and yellow.
They both also feature three squared-off circular sub-dials withs nailed interiors: a sub-seconds at 3 o’clock, a 6-hour totalizer at 6 o’clock, and a 15-minute counter at the 9 o'clock position. Another noteworthy motor-themed detail is the central chronograph hand, which is capable of 1/8-second measuring by moving at double the normal speed.
After these common elements the models deviate with the red dial inspired by the 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray 427 featuring its logo and a checkered flag.
While the green dial inspired by the 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 features the iconic “running horse” logo.
The blue dial model which also comes in the smaller 40mm case is inspired by the 1965 Shelby Cobra 427.
Unlike the other models this version only features two sub-dials: a sub-seconds at 3 o'clock and a 30-minute counter aligned at the 9 o'clock position. The steel hand and hour index on all these models have been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
Breitling Classic Cars
The Breitling Chevrolet Corvette (Ref#: A25310241K1X1) and Ford Mustang (Ref#: A253101A1L1X1) are powered by the self-winding mechanical movement caliber 25B with 21 jewels and 28,800 vph. It is based on the ETA 2891 with a Dubois-Depraz chronograph module. Power reserve on these watches can last up to 42 hours, when fully wound.
The Breitling Shelby Cobra (Ref#: A41315A71C1X2) is powered by the self-winding mechanical movement caliber 41B with 38 jewels and 28,800 vph. It is based on the ETA 2892-A2 with a Dubois-Depraz chronograph module. Power reserve on this watch can also last up to 42 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watches is a brown or black calfskin leather strap with racing-style perforations, secured to the wrist by a stainless-steel folding clasp. For more up to date information visit the official Breitling website here.
