Breitling SuperOcean 2022

One of the more recognizable faces in horology, CEO Georges Kern, continues to apply his winning formula. Since taking over at Breitling there have been several revivals inspired from the brand’s own heritage. This latest release was inspired by the “SuperOcean Slow Motion” chronograph of the 1960’s mixed in with enhanced reliability of modern construction. And with 16 new options in various sizes with multiple color schemes, there might be one here right for you.The case comes in four sizes: 46, 44, 42, and 36mm and within that selection they can be had made out of stainless-steel, steel and gold, or bronze. They share in common the mixture of vertically brushed surfaces and sides, contrasting with polished accents.Mounted to the case is a unidirectional bezel that differ in alloy across the models, but they all have a thin ceramic inlay. The diving bezel is uni-directional on all sizes except for the bidirectional 46mm option, which features a new patented bezel lock mechanism to qualify it as a diving watch. On the flip-side is a screw-in caseback that matches each model's alloy with a brush finished center surface. It comes equipped with a knurled screw-down crown, embossed with the Breitling "B" logo. This crown is well proportioned, but appears larger than is, placed between the polished crown guards. This polish runs all the way down as it shrinks, beside the wider brushed lugs. All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. Water-resistance on all these watches can reach up to 300 meters (1,000 feet).Time is exhibited on various colored dials (black, blue, green, orange, turquoise, and white), but in common they all feature applied square and rectangular hour index markers, while circling around is a sloped flange with a 60-minute track. What stands out the most is the characteristic square minute hand, followed by the sword-shaped hour hand, which marks the return of 1960’s Slow Motion aesthetics. They’ve even added a lollipop running seconds that adds an extra dash of color to each versions palette.

The central hands, large hour index marker and a dot on the bezel have all been fitted with a green lume, for an enhanced legibility.
