Breitling Super AVI B04 Chronograph GMT 46 Mosquito Night Fighter

At the end of 2021 was when Breitling initially launched their “Super AVI collection” as a tribute to the world of aviation. The initial series featured five chronographs inspired by four legendary aircrafts used by the WWII Allied forces. Now the latest addition to this lineup is the new “Super AVI B04 Chronograph GMT 46 Mosquito Night Fighter”.This release is a homage to the de Havilland Mosquito, which was an aircraft made mostly with wood, due to aluminum and steel shortages that occurred between 1940 and 1950. It was conceived by designer Sir Geoffrey de Havilland and nicknamed the “Wooden Wonder”, as it outperformed many of its metal contemporaries and became one of the fastest planes built during that era. 

The 46mm case is made of black ceramic with a vertically brushed finish. Despite a thickness of 15.9mm the chamfered lugs provide this watch with a slimmer profile. Mounted to the case is a coin edge ratcheted bidirectional bezel engraved with a 12-hour scale in a black ceramic bezel insert. On the flip-side is a titanium caseback with a sapphire exhibition center, which allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features the silhouette of the Night Fighter’s outline etched directly on to the sapphire crystal.It comes equipped with two titanium piston-style pushers that operate the chronograph functions, with a titanium screw-locked setting-crown in-between them, which is reinforced by two gaskets. All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal that’s been glare-proofed on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a black dial with Arabic numerals (except the 3, 6, and 9 spot represented by a triangle shape), followed by a ring of thin white minute markers with a cube marking for each 5-minute increment. A second time-zone can be tracked by using the 24-hour ring on the inner bezel, which is pointed out by the white-tipped GMT hand.It also features a chronograph function with three gray snailed finished sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock; a 12-hour counter aligned with the 6 o’clock spot that also includes a date window; and a sub-seconds at 9 o’clock. The central hour/minute sword-style hands and Arabic numerals have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.

This “Breitling Super AVI B04 Chronograph GMT 46 Mosquito Night Fighter” (Ref#: SB04451A1B1X1) is powered by the self-winding mechanical movement, in-house caliber B04 with 47 jewels and 28,800 vph.
