Breitling Navitimer B19 Chronograph 43 Perpetual Calendar

Breitling expands its Navitimer collection with the introduction of the Navitimer B19 Chronograph 43 Perpetual Calendar, bringing the brand’s in-house B19 movement to a standard-production model for the first time. Following last year’s limited-edition gold releases celebrating Breitling’s 140th anniversary, this new version features a stainless steel case with a platinum bezel and a striking ice-blue dial. Combining a perpetual calendar, moonphase, and chronograph into the Navitimer’s signature design, this latest release continues the collection’s legacy of functionality and aviation heritage, while adding a refined, modern aesthetic.

The 43mm case is made in stainless steel with a 49.07mm lug-to-lug measurement and a thickness of 14.94mm, which is slightly slimmer than the gold editions released last year. Maintaining the classic Navitimer architecture, the case combines brushed and polished surfaces, ensuring a refined yet sporty presence on the wrist. A standout feature is the platinum notched bezel, which not only elevates the watch’s luxurious appeal but also retains the bidirectional functionality to operate the signature slide-rule scale beneath the crystal.
Flipping the watch over, the screw-down display caseback offers a clear view of the Breitling B19 movement, showcasing its intricate perpetual calendar mechanism. The rhodium-plated rotor with Geneva stripes ensures that the movement remains the visual focal point, replacing the 140th-anniversary commemorative rotor found on last year’s limited-edition gold models. This sapphire-backed design allows enthusiasts to appreciate the finishing details and complexity of the caliber. On the right side of the case, the signed screw-down crown is flanked by polished pump-style chronograph pushers, ensuring a smooth and responsive operation. Unlike some modern perpetual calendars that allow adjustments via the winding crown, this Navitimer follows a more traditional approach, incorporating two recessed pushers on the left case flank for calendar corrections. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).
Time is exhibited on a striking ice-blue sunburst dial, offering a contemporary take on the Navitimer’s classic aviation-inspired design. This cool-toned backdrop contrasts beautifully with the black outer slide-rule scale, which remains a fundamental part of the collection’s identity. The chronograph registers at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock maintain the familiar Navitimer layout, but each features dual hands and concentric scales to accommodate the additional perpetual calendar functions. At 12 o’clock, a refined moonphase complication is seamlessly integrated, adding an extra touch of elegance to the already detailed display. The dial text and markings are printed in black and white, ensuring high legibility against the sunburst background. Instead of the usual red accents often found in Navitimers, this model opts for a deep blue hue, applied subtly throughout the chronograph and slide-rule scales. The hands and hour markers remain true to the Navitimer aesthetic, featuring polished faceted indices and the signature sword-shaped hour and minute hands, all contributing to the watch’s balanced yet highly functional layout. To enhance nighttime readability, Super-LumiNova is applied to the hands and hour markers, providing a strong and reliable glow in low-light conditions. This ensures that, despite its complexity, the watch remains highly legible at all times. The subdials and moonphase display do not feature luminescence, allowing the primary timekeeping elements to stand out during nighttime visibility.
