Breitling celebrates the centennial of Miles Davis’s birth with a special Navitimer inspired by the Ref. 806 Mk 5 worn by the legendary jazz musician.

Introduced at Geneva Watch Days, the new Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Miles Davis translates the character of Davis’s vintage watch into a 500-piece stainless-steel edition, while an even more exclusive three-watch collector set expands the tribute into yellow gold and platinum.
The Breitling Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Miles Davis is available as Ref. AB09501A1B1X1 on a leather strap or Ref. AB09501A1B1A1 on a steel bracelet. Its stainless-steel case measures 41mm in diameter, 13mm thick and 47.1mm from lug to lug, maintaining the same 41mm diameter as the vintage Ref. 806 worn by Davis. The familiar Navitimer architecture surrounds the dial with its characteristic circular slide rule, preserving one of Breitling’s most recognizable chronograph designs.

Around the back, the case continues the commemorative nature of the edition while housing the manually wound Breitling Calibre B09. Unlike the standard steel release, the highly limited collector set also reinterprets the watch in 18k yellow gold and platinum, with the latter distinguished further by a blue dial.

The crown is positioned between the two chronograph pushers, providing control over the manually wound movement and chronograph functions. The case maintains the relatively traditional proportions and vintage-influenced character of the Ref. 806-inspired design. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).

The primary steel edition features a black dial inspired by the Ref. 806 Mk 5 associated with Miles Davis, combining the Navitimer’s densely detailed instrumentation with a distinctly vintage aesthetic. Its circular slide rule and contrasting chronograph scales maintain the functional character that originally established the Navitimer as an aviation instrument, while the overall execution deliberately avoids placing an overt Miles Davis reference across the dial.

Applied hour markers and the central handset are joined by Breitling’s historic Twin Jet logo, providing another visual connection to the period that inspired the watch. The chronograph layout records elapsed time for up to 12 hours, while the surrounding scales preserve the information-rich appearance that has defined the Navitimer for generations.

Cream-colored luminous material is used to reinforce the vintage character of the steel edition. Its warmer tone complements the black dial and historical detailing, allowing Breitling to evoke the appearance of the Ref. 806 without simply reproducing Davis’s original watch.

Breitling Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Miles Davis
The “Breitling Navitimer B09 Chronograph 41 Miles Davis” (References below) is powered by the in-house manually wound mechanical movement, caliber Breitling B09 operating at 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with a column-wheel and vertical-clutch chronograph architecture, hours, minutes, seconds and a chronograph capable of measuring elapsed time for up to 12 hours, while carrying COSC chronometer certification. Power reserve can last up to 70 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is either a calf-leather strap or a modern interpretation of Breitling’s distinctive Air Racer stainless steel bracelet. The latter adopts a cuff-like design characterized by large perforations, recalling the unconventional appearance of historical racing bracelets while incorporating hinged links near the clasp to improve comfort and articulation. The bracelet gives the vintage-inspired Navitimer an especially distinctive appearance while reinforcing the watch’s mid-century character.
