Breitling Navitimer B03 Chronograph Rattrapante 45
The term “rattrapante” derives from the French “rattraper” meaning to “catch up”. It’s a function that enables us to measure two elapsed times simultaneously, with two superimposed central chronograph hands. At times an invaluable function for pilots, which has been a staple on many Navitimer models by Breitling, just like on their new “Breitling Navitimer B03 Chronograph Rattrapante 45”.
The 45mm case is made of 18k red gold with a transparent case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement.
Mounted to the case is a bi-directional rotating bezel made of matching 18k red gold, plus a circular slide ruler.
It comes equipped with two push-pieces that operate the chronograph functions. In between the pushers is a setting-crown engraved with the Breitling “B” logo.
All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal, glare-proofed on both sides. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
Time is exhibited on a grey dial with red gold hour index markers, followed by a ring of white printed seconds/minutes markings.
There are three contrasting black sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position, a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. A date aperture has been placed between the 4 and 5 o’clock position.
The hands on this watch our gold-toned with an extra red hand for the chronograph functions. While circling around the dial on the inner bezel is the famous slide ruler, which is colored dark brown with white Arabic numerals and some red highlights. Gold toned hands and stainless-steel applied index hour markers feature a luminescent filling, for enhanced legibility.
The Breitling logo is divided between the two central hands of the chronograph and comes together when the B on the red chronograph hand deftly overlaps with the anchor on the split-seconds hand. A subtle but appreciated detail to further the appeal of this timepiece.
