Breitling commemorates the 100th anniversary of astronaut Scott Carpenter’s birth with a platinum tribute watch inspired by the Navitimer he wore into space. Limited to just 50 pieces, the Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Scott Carpenter Centenary recalls the historic moment Carpenter orbited the Earth three times aboard the Aurora 7 capsule on May 24, 1962. This contemporary homage, rendered in luxurious materials and equipped with a historically accurate 24-hour dial, reinforces Breitling's legacy in space and aviation horology.
The new Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Scott Carpenter Centenary is housed in a 41mm case crafted entirely from platinum, with a thickness of 13mm. It features a signature bidirectional rotating bezel with a circular slide rule and mushroom-style pushers. The case has a distinctive luxurious weight and sheen, while maintaining sporty dimensions that reflect its chronograph functionality and historical aviation roots.Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire crystal caseback that showcases the hand-wound movement within. The transparent window is engraved with commemorative inscriptions, including "First Swiss wristwatch in space," "One of 50," and "Scott Carpenter Centenary 1925–1925," offering both aesthetic appeal and historical context. The movement also features special engravings that commemorate Carpenter’s mission: “Carpenter,” “Aurora 7,” “Mercury 7,” and “3 orbits around the Earth.”
The conical crown is flanked by the smooth mushroom pushers, offering a classic silhouette that harks back to the early days of aviation chronographs. All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
The deep blue dial of this tribute model is accentuated with three recessed white subdials positioned at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, dedicated to chronograph hours, minutes, and running seconds, respectively. A discreet date window is subtly integrated at 6 o'clock, maintaining dial symmetry.A red central chronograph seconds hand enhances functionality and visibility when tracking elapsed time. At 12 o'clock, the winged emblem of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) is prominently displayed, reflecting the Navitimer's aviation legacy since 1952.
The platinum hour and minute hands are filled with Super-LumiNova, ensuring optimal visibility in low-light conditions, while a detailed minute track and subtle numerals support precision readings.
