Breitling strengthens its legacy in space exploration with the Breitling Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II, a limited edition inspired by its use during NASA’s Artemis II mission. Worn by astronauts, including mission commander Reid Wiseman, this model builds on the Cosmonaute’s historic role as one of the first Swiss wristwatches designed specifically for space flight.
Combining a distinctive 24-hour display with a meteorite dial and mission-specific details, the watch blends functional instrument design with a tangible connection to modern space exploration.
The Navitimer B02 Cosmonaute Artemis II is housed in a 41mm stainless-steel case with a thickness of 13mm, offering a balanced and wearable profile for a professional chronograph. The design remains faithful to the Navitimer lineage, featuring a circular slide rule bezel, here executed in black, which allows for a range of aviation-style calculations.
On the reverse, a sapphire crystal caseback reveals the hand-wound chronograph movement while incorporating a special Artemis II mission logo at its center. Surrounding the display, engravings reading “Artemis II” and “One of 450” emphasize the exclusivity and direct connection to the mission.
At 3 o’clock sits a non-screw-down crown flanked by chronograph pushers, maintaining the classic Navitimer configuration. A cambered sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial, ensuring clarity in all conditions. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (100 feet).
The standout feature of this edition is its striking blue meteorite dial, often referred to as “galaxy blue,” which introduces a unique texture and visual depth. Each dial is inherently one-of-a-kind due to the natural crystalline structure of the meteorite material.
The layout follows the Cosmonaute’s signature 24-hour format, designed for use in space where distinguishing between day and night is essential. Three chronograph subdials are integrated into the display, maintaining symmetry while enhancing functionality.
Contrasting white indexes and markers ensure clear legibility, while red accents on the chronograph seconds hand add a dynamic touch. The hands and hour markers are treated with Super-LumiNova, providing visibility in low-light conditions and reinforcing the watch’s tool-watch character.
