Breitling continues to link itself to historic moments in aviation by partnering up with current and defunct aircrafts. As the press release reminds us “The Boeing 747 made its maiden voyage in 1969, and went on to revolutionize civil aviation, putting long-haul flights within reach of a new generation of air travelers and connecting the world like never before. As Boeing delivers its last 747, Breitling celebrates two aviation icons with a special-edition Navitimer, limited to 747 pieces.“ The round 43 mm is made in stainless-steel with a mix of polished surfaces and brushed casebands. Mounted by a bi-directional steel bezel with a slide rule.On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The steel periphery is inscribed with “THE ORIGINAL JUMBO JET” and “ONE OF 747”. It comes equipped with a knurled non screw-locked setting-crown with two gaskets, and embossed with the Breitling “B” logo. All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (96 feet).Time is exhibited on an off-white cream colored dial with steel applied hour index markers, followed by a red ring with white printed markers to track nautical stats in kilometers (KM). While circling around the dial on the sloped inner bezel is the famous slide ruler in white with black numerals and blue accents. There are three snailed sub-dials with sloped circumferences: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. This Navitimer Boeing 747’s colors echo the palette found on the original aircraft. The steel central sword-shaped hour/minute hands and applied hour index have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for enhanced legibility. Plus the chronometer hand is highlighted in red. There is also a black date window located at the 6 o’clock position.
