Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 41
Over the span of seven decades since its initial introduction, Breitling's iconic Navitimer has seen numerous iterations. However, this latest Navitimer model embraces its classic attributes while incorporating contemporary enhancements. It achieves a more streamlined appearance through the incorporation of a flattened slide rule and a domed crystal. One update sure to evoke nostalgia is the return of the AOPA wings to their original position at 12 o'clock. For 70 years, Breitling's original pilot's watch has graced the wrists of astronauts in outer space, pilots on Earth, and remains their most iconic timepiece and one of the most instantly recognizable watches in history. The 41 mm case is made of stainless-steel with an overall brushed finish and a height of 13.6mm, which are the same dimensions on their previous slim profile models. Mounted by a ratcheted bidirectional steel bezel with the standar circular slide ruler that enables pilots to execute the majority of necessary flight calculations. On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It showcases various purple jewels and golden gears, plus an oscillating weight decorated with open-worked sections and the Breitling branding in a gold font.It comes equipped with two piston-style pushers to operate the chronograph functions, while between them is a knurled setting-crown equipped with two gaskets and embossed with the Breitling logo. All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (96 feet).Time is exhibited on a silver dial with applied hour index markers in blue, followed by a black printed ring track of nautical stats in MPH or in light blue if you prefer to rely on KM. While circling around the flange on the inner bezel is the famous slide ruler in white with black numerals and blue highlights. There are three concave sub-dials with snailed interiors that are also colored in silver to blend in seamlessly with the predominant background hue: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position, a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock with a date aperture in its midst, and a small seconds at the 9 o’clock position. Also aligned at the 12 o’clock spot, above the Breitling logo is the AOPA wings, a symbol of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, which is one of the largest pilots’ clubs in the world, that historically elected the Navitimer as its official watch, back in the 1950s.The blue toned hands and applied hour indices have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. This color scheme also manages to effectively incorporate a blue chronograph hand, which intuitively implies its practical use with the blue numerals.
