Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT 40

Back in 2020 was when Breitling relaunched the Chronomat collection and it rapidly became one of their bestsellers. In terms of size models had ranged from 36 to 42 mm, without any mid way option until now. These new “Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT 40” watches are a tribute to travel, not only for its dual time zone display, but also because of its easy going aesthetics that come in five distinct dial options. The 40 mm case is made of stainless-steel with an overall satin-brushed finish with a few polished accents. On the flipside is a solid steel screwed in caseback that all combined give this watch a total thickness of 11.7 mm.Mounted to the case is a unidirectional ratcheted rotating steel bezel with the quarter numerals (15, 30, 45) engraved and filled in for a black font look. As Breitling says “This is an all-purpose sports watch, meant to cross over between Breitling’s air, land and sea universes”. It comes equipped with the “onion” crown, which is a classic Chronomat feature, named for its fluted-dome shape that allows for easy adjustments. All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal is glareproofed on both sides. Water-resistance can reach up to 200 meters (660 feet).Time is exhibited on five dial colors (anthracite, black, blue, green, or white) with rectangular steel applied hour indices, followed by a ring of printed minutes/seconds markers. Each model has a sloped flange with a matching color, tone-on-tone 24-hour scale that tracks between day or night. The second time zone is further highlighted by a red arrow-tipped GMT hand. The running seconds hand features a thin steel hand with a counterweight shaped as the Breitling “B” logo. The sword shaped central hour/minute hands and hour indices have all been fitted with a luminescent filling for an enhanced legibility. There is also a cut-out date window at the 6 o’clock position.
