Breguet Reine de Naples
Legend has it that the very first wristwatch that Breguet designed was worn by Queen of the reign of Naples, Caroline Murat (1782-1839), hence this watch being known as the “Reine de Naples”. It is one of the Maison’s most iconic pieces and we’ve seen it before in modern times. Now it reappears once again in two variations in which features the first ever “Grand Feu” dial, for this collection. The 36.5 mm by 28.45 mm oval shaped case is made of 18k white gold with an overall polished finish. Despite its petite size this watch was delicately crafted with fluted casebands for a refined aesthetic, proper of royal elegance. On the flipside is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a platinum oscillating weight decorated with an engine-turned Clou de Paris hobnailing finish. It comes equipped with a large protruding setting-crown, knurled near the top for a better grip, and also set with either a diamond or ruby. If we take into account the bezel, flange, and crown, these models differ because the diamond version has a total of 118 diamonds (approximately 0.94ct)
and the ruby option has a total of 136 rubies (approximately 1.34ct). Water-resistance can reach up to 30 meters (98 feet).Time is exhibited on either a black “Grand Feu” or mother-of-pearl guilloché dial, both with elongated Breguet style Arabic numerals that stretch out in different sizings. Meanwhile circling within the dial flange is a ring of gem-set diamonds or rubies, depending on the selected model. In the mid center is an off-centered chapter ring with small minute/seconds markings, which appears in all black with the signature open-tipped Bregeut hands in white gold, for the first ever “Grande Feu” dial. While the mother-of-pearl version appears with the iconic central hands in blued steel, plus center portion adorned with hand-crafted engine-turned Clou de Paris hobnailing in the characteristic guilloché pattern. This is also the first time that Bregeut has combined natural material with guilloché engravings. There is also a pear-cut diamond or ruby (specific to each model) placed at the 6 o’clock position.
