Breguet Marine Tourbillon 5577

The innovations of Abraham-Louis Breguet, can be dated back to 1801, when he received a 10-year patent from the French Interior Minister for his groundbreaking invention, the tourbillon. This innovation was aimed at enhancing the precision of pocket watches by counteracting the disruptive influence of gravitational forces on their performance. What made the tourbillon unique was Breguet's ingenious idea of placing the regulating organ (the sprung balance) and the escapement inside a mobile carriage that rotated fully once per minute. This not only significantly enhanced the accuracy of pocket-chronometers but also introduced one of the most captivating and celebrated advancements in watchmaking. Jump to more than two centuries later, and the tourbillon continues to be an object of fascination, now incorporated into the Marine collection with their latest creation, the Marine Tourbillon 5577.The 42mm case is finely made in either 18k rose or 950 platinum with vertically brushed surfaces and polished accents finish. It measures in at a height of 9.3mm, despite housing caliber 581, which is an ultra-thin movement only 3mm thick. Mounted to the case is a polished two-step bezel, matching the main case alloy. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It showcases various jewels, straight ribbed motif embellishments, and the barrel drum is adorned by an embossed nautical compass rose.It also comes equipped with a fluted screw-locked crown embossed with the Breguet “B” logo, placed between a pair of subtle crown guards. The casebands feature Breguet’s signature fluted pattern, while the thinner lugs provide a comfortable wrist-fit and integrate an extra layer of design. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited in either a sunburst blue or brown (although Breguet officially describes it as “slate gray”) dial with applied Roman numerals, followed by an outer flange with large hour index markers and small dots for the minutes. The tourbillon cage appears on the lower-half in an off-set manner, cutting out a few numerals. This is a fast-beating tourbillon equipped with an innovative movement fitted with a carriage, escapement and balance-spring in silicon, which is a material with multiple enhanced properties that include resistance to both corrosion and wear, while also providing protection against the influence of magnetic fields. The central lollipop-style Breguet hands, applied Roman numerals and nautical pennants have all been treated with luminescent material, for an enhanced legibility.
