Blancpain expands its Ocean Commitment series with the Fifty Fathoms Tech Ocean Commitment IV, a more compact and versatile evolution of the Tech Gombessa. While retaining the modern, highly technical design language of its predecessor, this limited-edition model refines the formula with a reduced 45mm case size and a traditional 60-minute diving bezel, making it more adaptable for everyday wear. This release marks another milestone in Blancpain’s ongoing commitment to marine conservation, with proceeds supporting the Blancpain x Sulubaaï Marine Research Center.
The 45mm case is crafted from grade 23 titanium, a high-performance alloy that offers exceptional strength, lightweight properties, and superior corrosion resistance compared to grade 5 titanium. The case is fully satin-finished, giving it a sleek yet robust appearance. The signature Fifty Fathoms bezel remains an integral part of the design, featuring a black ceramic insert that is tilted slightly towards the dial for enhanced legibility. This unidirectional rotating bezel is now equipped with a conventional 60-minute diving scale, making it a more versatile option compared to its predecessor, the Tech Gombessa.Turning the watch over, the screw-down caseback features a sapphire crystal, offering a clear view of the movement inside. This caseback construction ensures the watch maintains its impressive 300-meter water resistance, while also allowing enthusiasts to admire the refined finishing and custom rotor. The helium escape valve, positioned at 10 o’clock, remains an essential feature for saturation diving, enabling the safe release of gas buildup during prolonged underwater missions.Completing the case’s functionality, the screw-down crown provides a secure seal against moisture and pressure while ensuring smooth operation of the time-setting mechanism. Protecting the dial is a spherical sapphire crystal, which reduces distortions while maintaining durability in extreme underwater conditions. Water resistance can reach up to 300 meters (1,000 feet).
The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech Ocean Commitment IV features an “absolute black” dial with a matte finish, engineered to absorb 97% of light for extreme contrast and clarity. This specialized surface minimizes glare, ensuring that key indicators remain highly legible in all conditions. Unlike some previous Fifty Fathoms models with textured dials, this one embraces a sleek, uniform aesthetic, reinforcing its technical and modern appeal.At the center, the broad sword-style hour and minute hands provide a strong presence, while the block-shaped applied hour markers enhance readability. A discreet date window is positioned at 4:30, offering added functionality without disrupting the balanced design. The snailed running seconds sub-dial, subtly recessed, provides additional depth to the layout. Surrounding the dial is a sloped rehaut, creating a seamless transition between the hands and the bezel for an uncluttered, highly functional display.For maximum underwater visibility, high-performance luminescent material coats the hands, markers, and bezel pip, ensuring a vivid blue-green glow in low-light conditions. The “Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech Ocean Commitment IV” (Ref#: 5029A-12B30-64A) is powered by the self-winding in-house mechanical movement, caliber 1315A with 35 jewels, 227 components, and a frequency of 28,800 vph. The silicon balance spring ensures enhanced resistance to magnetic fields, improving long-term reliability. It features a triple-barrel system that allows for an extended 120-hour (5-day) power reserve when fully wound.
Mounted on the watch is a black rubber strap, integrated with central lugs for a secure fit, while secured to the wrist by a pin buckle.
