Blancpain continues to expand the technical side of its legendary Fifty Fathoms collection with the introduction of the new Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A. Derived from the Fifty Fathoms Tech Gombessa launched in 2023, the watch was originally conceived as a specialised instrument for closed-circuit rebreather divers and underwater explorers. This new version retains the innovative three-hour diving system that made the Gombessa unique while adding greater everyday practicality through a date display and a versatile quick-change strap system. Most importantly, it now joins the permanent collection.
The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A is housed in a substantial Grade 23 titanium case measuring 47mm in diameter and 14.81mm in thickness. The satin-finished construction prioritises durability while keeping weight under control, and the central-lug architecture gives the watch a distinctive appearance unlike any other Fifty Fathoms model currently available.

Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire crystal caseback offering a view of the manufacture calibre 13P5A. The rear section continues the technical theme of the watch while showcasing the movement’s architecture and finishing. Despite its professional purpose, Blancpain has not sacrificed the visual appeal expected from a high-end mechanical dive watch.

The defining feature remains the patented unidirectional three-hour bezel fitted with a black ceramic insert and luminous markings. Developed in collaboration with underwater explorer Laurent Ballesta and the Gombessa Expeditions team, the system allows divers using modern rebreather equipment to track significantly longer underwater excursions. A screw-down crown, helium escape valve, and domed sapphire crystal complete the package. Water-resistance can reach up to 300 meters (984 feet).

The dial is executed in Blancpain’s proprietary “Absolute Black” finish, a surface treatment capable of absorbing up to 97% of incoming light. The result is an exceptionally dark display that virtually eliminates reflections and significantly improves legibility underwater.

The layout is intentionally functional. Large applied block-shaped hour markers are paired with cardinal-position numerals, creating a highly legible display that remains easy to read in challenging conditions. A discreet date aperture has now been integrated into the dial, adding practicality without disrupting the overall balance.

Blancpain employs a clever dual-colour luminescence system to separate diving functions from standard timekeeping indications. The dedicated three-hour dive-time hand and bezel markings emit a blue glow, while the conventional hour, minute, and timekeeping markers emit green Super-LumiNova. This visual distinction allows divers to instantly differentiate between mission-critical dive information and standard time indications.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech
The “Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech” (Ref#: 5019A 12B30 94A) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 13P5A with 35 jewels, 226 components, and 28,800 vph. It comes equipped with a triple-barrel architecture, a dedicated three-hour dive-time indication, central seconds, and a date display. Based on Blancpain’s highly regarded calibre 1315 platform, the movement is engineered for reliability and long-term precision. Power reserve can last up to 120 hours, when fully wound.

Mounted on this watch is an orange rubber strap secured by a titanium pin buckle. The bright colour reinforces the professional diving character of the watch while creating a strong contrast against the dark dial and titanium case.

Blancpain’s new tool-free interchangeable strap system allows owners to quickly swap between the supplied strap and optional black or white rubber alternatives, enhancing versatility both above and below the waterline.
