Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet
Since its comeback in 2013 to highlight the 60th anniversary of what many consider the very first dive watch ever created, we’ve seen various iterations of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. These two latest releases aren’t even totally new, since the “Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet” was first introduced in 2018. But, from now on the permanent collection will be including two other precious alloy options to choose from. The 43mm case is available in either Grade 23 titanium or 18k red gold, both with a fully brushed finish. Mounted to the case is a unidirectional rotating bezel featuring a blue ceramic inlay with a Ceragold time scale (red gold option) or an anthracite ceramic bezel with a satin-brushed finish for a technical matt effect (titanium), which are both further enriched by a graduated Liquidmetal scale. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features an oscillating weight in red gold or in gold with an anthracite NAC coating, depending on the version. It comes equipped with a screw-down crown and discreet push pieces on both sides of the case, which allow to set the complete calendar. All topped by a sapphire crystal that also assists with water-resistance reaching up to 300 meters (984 feet).Time is exhibited on either a sunburst anthracite dial with gold hour-markers, rhodium-plated hands and moon (titanium version), or a sunburst blue-gradient dial with gold hour-markers, hands and moon (red gold option). Both dials use a mix of round and rectangular index markers, while circling within is a calendar ring with all 31 days, which are pointed out by a red-tipped hand.On the upper-half we encounter two separated windows with the weekday and current month, while on the lower-half is a finely decorated moonphase. The central syringe-style hands and hour index markers have all been treated with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. It's worth recalling that unlike most calendar watches, this Blancpain can set any parameter independently from the others without any risk of damaging the movement.
Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet
The “Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet” (References below) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 6654.P with 28 jewels, 321 components, and 28,800 vph. Power reserve can last up to 72 hours (3 days), when fully wound.Mounted to the watches are several options that alter their final price-tag. Both are available with a NATO strap or sailcloth strap, secured by a pin buckle matching each edition's case alloy. But the titanium option is also available with a matching titanium bracelet, secured by a flooding clasp. These watches will be part of a permanent collection, so not exactly limited editions yet.
