Many were impressed by Blancpain when they introduced their updated version of the “Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe”, back at Baselworld 2018. Now it returns in this new limited edition run, to test out the waters. It has added a “day-date” feature and applied a “desert” themed color palette, which invites us to view this timepiece under a new perspective. The 43mm case is made of a satin-brushed steel with a transparent exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement.Mounted to the watch is a brown ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel with Liquidmetal™ numerals. Water-resistance on this timepiece can reach up to 300m (984 feet).Time is exhibited on a graduated sand-colored dial with a sun-burst pattern. It can also be referred to as a gradient dial, or fumé dégradé, which are all terms meant to convey how the color tones appear lighter in the center and intensify as ithey extend towards the perimeter.Circling around is a silver chapter ring with Arabic numerals for every 5-minute increment, while black printed minute markings appear within the ring gaps. On the upper-half of the dial Blancpain has placed their customary logo and “Fifty Fathoms” inscription with a cursive font. At the 3 o’clock position we encounter the two-window day-date. The rectangular syringe-style central hands are based on the original vintage look of this model, fitted here with a luminescent coating for an enhanced legibility.
