Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback

One of the most capable and historic diver watches is getting an expansion. For 2022 the artisans at Blancpain have released a new “Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback” in two distinct alloy options. Since it first splashed on the scene back in 1953, this model has held the standard for modern dive watches. The video below celebrates many of its users and their underwater adventures. The 43.6mm case is available in either an 18k red gold or grade 23 titanium, both with a satin brushed finish in alternating directions.Meanwhile mounted to the case is a unidirectional bezel with a circular brushed finish and gray ceramic with Liquidmetal® scale (titanium model) or glossy blue ceramic insert with Ceragold scale (red gold model). On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features an oscillating weight matching each models case alloy, while inscribed with Blancpain and their historic 1735 date.It comes equipped with piston-style pushers to operate the chronograph functions. In between them is a knurled screw-down crown embossed with the Blancpain “B” logo. All topped by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Water-resistance can reach up to 300m (984 feet).Time is exhibited on either an anthracite (titanium) or blue (red gold) dial with rounded index markers made of Liquidmetal®, which is an alloy suited to avoid distortions. Both main dial colors also appear with a sun-ray finish that adds an extra layer of refinement to the overall design. There are three snailed sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a sub-seconds at 6 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position. On both models these sub-dials maintain the main hue tone for a cohesive and compact look. The central syringe-style hands are based on the original vintage model, hence a nod to their historic back catalog. These hands and the hourly index markers, have all been fitted with a luminescent coating for an enhanced legibility.Plus the thin chronograph hand (on both models) has been given a red-tip to stand-out, while adding an extra dash of color to their overall palette. It also features a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock spots.
