Blancpain continues its refinement of the Fifty Fathoms line with the introduction of a new model in polished stainless steel, combining compact proportions with a luxurious finish that recalls the early elegance of mid-century dive watches. Originally developed in the 1950s for elite military divers, the Fifty Fathoms helped define the genre, and this latest reference blends that tool-watch DNA with contemporary materials and detailing. Now featuring a glossy black ceramic bezel, a black sunray-brushed dial, and powered by the high-performance calibre 1315, this new steel model bridges vintage inspiration and modern execution, adding a versatile, permanent option to the brand’s core collection.
This model has returned in a polished stainless steel case measuring 42.3mm in diameter and 14.3mm in thickness. A notable shift from the brushed titanium and red gold variants introduced in 2024, the high-polish finish here emphasizes reflective surfaces and sharp case geometry, lending the piece a more elevated wrist presence. It features a unidirectional notched bezel with a glossy black ceramic insert. Liquidmetal numerals and a luminous lozenge at 12 o’clock reinforce the model’s lineage back to the earliest Bakelite-equipped divers of the 1950s.
On the reverse, a screw-down caseback with a sapphire crystal exhibition window reveals the in-house automatic calibre 1315. The caseback’s polished steel frame is finely executed, offering a robust seal while allowing full view of the NAC-coated solid gold rotor and finely finished movement components. This layout ensures both technical robustness and visual appeal, respecting Blancpain’s reputation for tool-watch performance paired with haute horlogerie finishing. It comes equipped with a screw-down crown partially nestled between integrated crown guards for added protection during underwater use. The domed crystal and high-polish flanks give the case a slightly dressier edge while maintaining full dive readiness. Water-resistance can reach up to 300 meters (1,000 feet).
Time is exhibited on a black sunray-brushed dial that radiates under light with a refined sheen, offering a more modern contrast to the matte dials found in earlier Fifty Fathoms iterations. Large Arabic numerals are applied at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, with bold triangular markers completing the layout. The polished indices and broad hands contribute to high legibility, while the tone-on-tone date window discreetly positioned at 4:30 allows for daily utility without interrupting the symmetry of the dial.
The dial is framed by a domed sapphire crystal that slightly magnifies the dial’s textural details, while the glossy ceramic bezel surrounding it introduces a dynamic interplay between surface finishes. The lozenge marker at 12 o’clock on the bezel glows in sync with the dial, nodding to historical dive watch standards.
Polished sword-style hands provide a sharp visual contrast against the black background and are also treated with Super-LumiNova. Together with the refined brushing and luminous elements, the dial balances practical tool-watch functionality with Blancpain’s elevated aesthetic codes, showcasing heritage with subtle modernity.
