Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 3

During the course of this year, Blancpain has introduced several new iterations of its iconic dive watch, the Fifty Fathoms. First it began by launching the limited-edition Fifty Fathoms (Act 1), followed by the equally impressive Fifty Fathoms Tech Gombessa, designed specifically for closed-circuit rebreather diving (Act 2). Plus recently it gained significant buzz surrounding the Blancpain x Swatch collaboration.
Now for its following act they has revealed the third installment of this anniversary collection. The new “Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 3” is a captivating bronze-gold timepiece that draws direct inspiration from vintage MIL-SPEC models made of German silver, while embracing the solid aesthetics of these military-issued versions.
The 41.30mm case is made of a 9ct bronze-gold with an overall brushed finished. Mounted to the case is a ratcheted uni-directional satin-brushed 9k bronze-gold bezel with black ceramic insert, engraved with a 60-minute scale. On the flipside we have a transparent sapphire exhibition case back, which allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It comes equipped with an openworked oscillating weight, decorated with vintage style font filled by the same bronze-gold alloy. It also comes equipped with a setting-crown embossed by the “JB” logo. All topped by a box-shaped sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance reaching up to 300 meters (1000 feet).Time is exhibited on a black dial with hour indices in the form of circles, rectangles, and a triangle at the 12 o’clock spot, all with that vintage lume that color coordinates nicely with the bronze-gold alloy case.
In 1957, the MIL-SPEC watch was the first to incorporate a moisture indicator, adding an extra layer of safety to its design. Its primary function was to verify whether the watch had sustained any damage during prior missions, offering divers peace of mind. The inclusion of this moisture indicator was a vital aspect of the requirements outlined by the US Navy, which deemed this particular model as the sole watch capable of meeting their stringent criteria for underwater missions. Now it makes its return in 2023 on the lower-half of this limited edition dial.
The central sword-shaped hands and hour index markers, as well as the bezel inserts have all undergone a green luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
