Bell & Ross continues to explore the more technical side of its signature circle-within-a-square design with the new BR-X5 Meteorite. Introduced for Geneva Watch Days, the limited edition combines the modular architecture of the BR-X5 with a dial cut from the Muonionalusta meteorite, giving the contemporary sports watch a naturally patterned, monochromatic appearance rooted in material that predates Earth itself.
The Bell & Ross BR-X5 Meteorite features a 41mm stainless-steel case measuring 12.8mm thick, combining satin-brushed and polished surfaces. Its complex 12-part sandwich construction is built around a central watertight container housing the movement, with the characteristic square bezel and sapphire crystal secured to upper and lower plates by four visible screws. Hollowed sections along the case sides help visually reduce its mass while emphasizing the modular, technical architecture of the BR-X5.
Around the back, a sapphire crystal window provides a view of the automatic BR-CAL.323 manufacture movement within. The transparent caseback complements the watch’s technical construction by exposing the Kenissi-produced caliber while the surrounding steel structure maintains the industrial aesthetic established across the BR-X5 collection.
The screw-down crown is flanked by prominent crown guards, with both the guards and case flanks incorporating hollowed areas designed to reduce visual bulk. Protecting the meteorite dial is a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet).
The dial is machined directly from a solid slice of Muonionalusta meteorite, rather than applying a thin meteorite layer to a conventional brass base. Discovered in northern Sweden in 1906 after falling to Earth approximately one million years ago, the iron meteorite is estimated to be around 4.5 billion years old. Its characteristic Widmanstätten patterns were formed through extremely slow cooling over millions of years, ensuring that the crystalline structure displayed by every BR-X5 Meteorite dial is unique. A thin PVD coating is applied to preserve the material’s natural appearance.
A sloping outer flange carries the 60-minute scale, surrounding applied hour markers and the BR-X5’s distinctive instrument-inspired displays. At 3 o’clock, a framed triple-digit date aperture with a black disc and white numerals evokes an aircraft altimeter gauge,
while the circular power-reserve display at 9 o’clock uses a graphic bar to indicate the remaining energy. Rhodium-plated hour and minute hands are joined by a rhodium-plated central seconds hand, maintaining the metallic, monochromatic character of the meteorite surface.
White Super-LumiNova BGW9 fills the applied hour markers and bathtub-style hour and minute hands, producing a blue glow in low-light conditions. The hand of the power-reserve indicator is also treated with Super-LumiNova, providing another luminous element within the otherwise grey-toned display.
Combined with the natural crystalline patterns of the meteorite, the layered dial architecture gives each of the 250 watches its own subtly different appearance.
Bell & Ross BR-X5 Meteorite
The “Bell & Ross BR-X5 Meteorite” (References below) is powered by the self-winding mechanical movement, caliber BR-CAL.323 with 28 jewels is operating at 28,800 vph. Produced by Kenissi for Bell & Ross and certified as a chronometer by COSC, it comes equipped with a variable-inertia balance wheel and transversal balance bridge, along with hacking seconds and a date display with rapid correction. Power reserve can last up to 72 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted on this watch is either an integrated stainless-steel bracelet or a ventilated black rubber strap. The steel bracelet extends the metallic character of the case and meteorite dial for a predominantly monochromatic appearance,
while the black rubber alternative emphasizes the sportier and more technical side of the BR-X5 architecture.
The Bell & Ross BR-X5 Meteorite is produced as a limited edition of 250 pieces. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.
