Bell & Ross BR-X5 Blue Lum

Creating a blue version of an existing model may not be the most groundbreaking concept in the watch world, yet Bell & Ross has found a way to make a simple color swap truly impactful. Last year’s BR-X5 Green Lum attracted attention with its fully luminous green-glowing case, but its pale green appearance in daylight was divisive. Now, Bell & Ross has introduced the BR-X5 Blue Lum, a blue variation of the same model, and it promises to be a more wearable and visually appealing iteration with its soft powder-blue tone by day and bright aqua blue glow by night. Limited to 500 pieces, the BR-X5 Blue Lum maintains all the design elements of the previous model but in a colorway that enhances both its aesthetic appeal and versatility.

Just as its previous iteration it features a 41mm case with a thickness of 12.8mm, maintaining the same robust dimensions as last year’s model. Constructed from sandblasted grade 2 titanium with a black DLC finish, the case is designed for durability while keeping the weight of the watch comfortable on the wrist. At the center of its multi-component structure is a striking LM3D photoluminescent composite, a material made from quartz fibers and luminous particles suspended in a resin matrix, creating a fully luminous effect that glows blue in the dark.On the reverse, the watch includes a smoked sapphire crystal display caseback, providing a subtle view of the Caliber BR-CAL.323 movement within. The smoked finish adds a layer of mystery while emphasizing the modern look of the BR-X5 collection. It comes equipped with angular lugs that integrate seamlessly with the black rubber strap, while the screw-down crown at 3 o’clock provides reliable security for daily wear. The case’s durable construction, topped by a clear sapphire crystal, ensures that it stands up to wear while offering a striking aesthetic. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet). The dial of the BR-X5 Blue Lum mirrors the design of the previous Green Lum but in a cool, matte blue and black color scheme. The matte black dial provides a strong backdrop for the blue Super-LumiNova hands and hour markers, which glow a bright aqua blue in the dark. The layout includes hours, minutes, and seconds hands, with a power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock and an arc-shaped date window at 3 o’clock. The blue accents on the hands and indexes create a subtle visual harmony with the luminescent case components. The BR-X5 Blue Lum celebrates luminosity without going overboard with a fully luminous dial; instead, it maintains legibility with a balanced amount of lume across key features. Both the date window and power reserve indicator have applications of Super-LumiNova, ensuring excellent readability day or night.Designed for ease of use, the hour markers are finished with blue luminescent material, complementing the aesthetic while maintaining the watch’s practical, rugged appeal. The luminous components all emit a consistent aqua blue glow, enhancing the unique aesthetic of the Lum series.
