Bell & Ross unveils a bold statement of design and mechanical artistry with the new BR-X3 Tourbillon Micro-Rotor, a 25-piece limited edition that elevates its square-shaped icon into the realm of Haute Horlogerie. Housed in a unique combination of sapphire and steel, this 40mm model is built around transparency, structure, and architectural minimalism. Driven by the brand’s manufacture BR-CAL.389 calibre, the watch features an offset time display and a flying tourbillon with automatic winding via a micro-rotor, showcasing Bell & Ross’ technical maturity and experimental design language.
The BR-X3 Tourbillon Micro-Rotor is housed in a 40mm square case, measuring just 9mm in height. Crafted from a combination of satin-finished and polished steel with sapphire crystal components, the case architecture is built around visual openness and mechanical exposure. Its transparent design reveals the entirety of the skeletonised movement, framed by linear steel lugs and secured by four exposed screws, as an aesthetic that reinforces the brand’s industrial design ethos while echoing the geometry of cockpit instruments.
Viewed from the back, the sapphire caseback mirrors the front crystal in both clarity and structure. The transparency offers an unobstructed view of the movement, from the polished flying tourbillon cage to the offset gear train and micro-rotor. Custom-finished bridges with alternating brushed and polished surfaces align in a geometric grid, designed to harmonise visually with the square case format.
It comes equipped with a large sapphire crystal on the front and back, both treated with anti-reflective coating to maximise legibility and showcase the movement’s architecture. The minimalist crown is inset at 3 o’clock, preserving the square silhouette. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (165 feet).
The BR-X3 Tourbillon Micro-Rotor features a fully skeletonised dial architecture, defined by an open grid of geometric bridges that form the visual backbone of the display. A small smoked sapphire sub-dial is offset at 2 o’clock, presenting a minimalist platform for the essential time-telling functions. At 5:30, the dial dramatically opens to reveal the flying tourbillon, rotating in full view and acting as the visual anchor of the composition.
Time is indicated by rhodium-plated hour and minute hands, faceted and angled for sharp contrast against the movement backdrop. There are no applied indices, numerals, or peripheral scales, emphasizing the dial’s visual lightness and drawing full attention to the mechanical performance on display. The Bell & Ross logo is discreet, placed to preserve the symmetry and harmony of the exposed calibre.
Lume is omitted entirely to maintain aesthetic purity, allowing the focus to remain on the high-horology finishing and transparency. Finishing across the visible bridges is meticulously executed, with linear brushing and polished bevels that create depth and contrast. The fumé sapphire sub-dial adds a subtle layer of translucency, enhancing the dial’s dimensionality without obstructing the view of the calibre beneath.
