Bell & Ross BR 05 Artline
When collections perform well they tend to expand their offerings by creating more options. The “BR 05 collection” by Bell & Ross continues to do just that by creating more watches that go beyond their initial aviation and military-themed timepieces. This latest limited edition release dubbed “Artline” was inspired by the “Streamline Moderne” period of the 1930’s. This form of architecture was itself inspired by aerodynamic designs and emphasized long horizontal lines as seen on this edition's bezel and central links. The 40mm case comes in the iconic Bell & Ross circle in a square format, made of stainless-steel with a mix of vertically brushed surfaces and polished accents. But the true novelty comes mounted to the case in the form of a fixed rounded out square bezel with exposed screws, which in this edition includes a series of vertical relief engravings. On the flip-side we have an exhibition case back that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It comes equipped with a setting-crown surrounded by crown guards, which give the case an overall concise and compact look. The crown has also been engraved with the ampersand logo that Bell & Ross is renowned for. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, which assists with water-resistance reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a ruthenium gray dial with steel applied hour index markers, while circling around is a sloped flange. The dial also has a sunburst finish that spreads out across its whole canvas.Other than that this is a very simple straightforward layout. On the upper-half is a nice steel-applied Bell & Ross logo, while on the lower half is a white printed “AUTOMATIC” inscription. The central skeletonised hour/minutes hands and hour index markers have all undergone a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date window at the 3 o’clock spot.
