Bell & Ross BR-03 Horizon
Bell & Ross continues its tradition of blending aviation-inspired design with modern watchmaking through the introduction of the new BR-03 Horizon. As part of the brand’s Flight Instrument series, this watch is a tribute to the artificial horizon used in aircraft navigation, offering a bold, instrument-like aesthetic. The black ceramic case and distinctive dial, which mimics the look of an aircraft’s horizon gauge, make the BR-03 Horizon a unique addition to the brand’s lineup, combining functionality with a striking design. Limited to 999 pieces, it’s a true testament to Bell & Ross’ ability to merge technical prowess with avant-garde style.
The compact 41mm x 41mm square black ceramic case brings a modern and sleek look to the instrument-inspired design. The micro-blasted ceramic finish gives the case a matte texture, reducing reflections and enhancing its stealthy appearance. At 10.6mm thick, the case maintains a slim profile while still offering robust protection. The signature four screws at the corners of the square case add to its industrial aesthetic, echoing the design of cockpit instruments.
On the flipside is a solid ceramic case back that completes the rugged, durable construction. It comes engraved with technical details, while highlighting its “AVIATION TYPE” status at the header. Despite its limited edition there is no mention or unique numbered sequence.
This updated case design features more curved lugs and softened corners, improving both the ergonomics and overall visual appeal, compared to previous editions. The bezel has expansive slopes, giving the case a more refined silhouette, while the easy-to-grip crown ensures smooth operation. All topped by a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, offering clear legibility in various lighting conditions. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
The dial of the Bell & Ross BR-03 Horizon draws direct inspiration from the artificial horizon instrument found in aircraft cockpits, giving it a bold and distinctive look. The horizon line, a key feature of the instrument, is presented as a vibrant red decal that stretches across the sapphire crystal from 3 to 9 o’clock. This unique design element divides the dial into two distinct halves, with a black and blue rotating disc representing the sky and ground.
The hour indicator is a black triangle on the rotating disc, which moves along the inner flange where the hour markers are located. A white triangle at the 12 o’clock position serves as a fixed reference point for orientation. The inner bezel surrounding the dial also features the minutes and seconds track, ensuring precise time reading. For the hands, a white hand is used to indicate the minutes, while a longer, black-and-white striped hand tracks the running seconds. This layered design, coupled with the bright accents, offers a dynamic and legible presentation, maintaining the functionality and charm of a cockpit instrument.
