Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Radiocompass

Simplicity in itself can contain a wide range of sophistication and aesthetic properties. Bell & Ross and their iconic circle-in-a-square has been widely used and seen in various iterations by now, but we haven’t seen them all yet. This latest “Radiocompass” model was designed to resemble an onboard radio receiver, like those used to guide pilots at night or during reduced visibility. They even applied old-school analogue hands, for a vintage vibe that manages to indicate time effectively, while preserving aviation history. The square 42mm case is made of matte black ceramic with 10.4mm in height. Mounted to the case is a fixed bezel with four exposed blackened screw tops to blend with its surroundings. On the flip-side is a solid caseback that is engraved with technical details. It also follows the exposed screws aesthetics, as seen on the main side.It comes equipped with a setting-crown that features an engraving of the ampersand “&” Bell & Ross logo. All topped by a thick 2.85mm sapphire crystal, which combined with the screw-down crown also make it a legit diver watch. Water-resistance can reach up to 300 meters (984 feet), which exceeds the minimum divers requisite of 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a matte black dial with three white printed rings: Arabic numerals for hours inside a detailed minute track with Arabic numerals for seconds in increments of five, circling the sloped flange. While the main portion of the dial is quite simple, this watches characteristic style comes alive in its hands section. First there is a wide openworked hour hand with orange inlays and triangular tip with an H for minutes; followed by a yellow minute hand with triangular tip and M for minutes, and finally a green seconds hand with black counterweight.A very effective way to tell time, which can also be told apart in the dark by differentiating hues as luminescence. The hour hand glows yellow, while the minute hand has a green glow. There is also a round date window between 4 and 5 o’clock.
