Bell & Ross BR 03-94 Blacktrack
Bell & Ross is famous for watches inspired by aviation, but they're also linked with speed in various forms. They've partnered on land vehicles before, teaming up with Alpine and the Renault F1 teams. Now their most recent collaboration with designer Sacha Lakic’s Blacktrack Motors resulted in the Bell & Ross BR 03-94 BLACKTRACK with a sleek, all-black version that maintains the brand's signature squared case. This design brings the essence of Bell & Ross' instrument panel style to everyday wear, without compromising on speed or style.Created alongside the Blacktrack BT-06 bike showcased earlier, the BR 03-94 BLACKTRACK mirrors its sleek lines and blackout aesthetic. In line with Bell & Ross' style, the bike draws inspiration from stealth aircraft, keeping the brand's aerial connections intact despite being a motorcycle collaboration. Staying true to the typical BR 03-94 chronograph design, the overall shape closely resembles the standard silhouette. The iconic Bell & Ross circle in a square inspired by aviation control decks, appears here in a 42mm matte black ceramic case. The watch's modern appearance gets a significant boost from the case's angled corners, adding a contemporary touch even within the already-modern black ceramic build. Bell & Ross took an inventive approach in crafting these angles. In the regular models, the screws (substituted by bolts in the BLACKTRACK) sit nearly level with the case, while there's a raised bezel encircling the crystal. In this version, the entire case inclines upwards, forming a substantial bezel around the crystal. On the flip-side is a solid case back that is decorated with the engraving of the BT-06 motorcycle. It comes equipped with two push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions and a setting crown embossed with the ampersand “&” logo. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on a black dial with gray coated hour indices, followed by a printed minute track. The majority of the dial features gray stripes running down over a black background. While circling around the sloped flange is a tachymeter scale with the same color scheme.
The BR 03-94 Blacktrack watch has a mostly black and grey face that looks like a motorcycle dashboard. On the left side at 9 o'clock, there's a 30-minute stopwatch, while on the right at 3 o'clock, there's a small seconds display. The tip of the stopwatch hand and the 30-minute counter hand are red, matching the date displayed at 6 o'clock against a black background to blend with the watch's overall black and grey look.
The sub-dials resemble motorcycle handlebar instruments, with careful attention to detail, like the chronograph second hand forming a "B" for Blacktrack. The use of Super-LumiNova is different from Bell & Ross's usual style and is applied to enhance visibility in low light. The central metal skeletonized hands and hour indices have been coated with Super-LumiNova for an enhanced legibility.
