Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono
The BR 05 collection by Bell & Ross has been around for awhile now with its share of admirers. But, the time to level up has finally arrived. In essence the goal of the “BR 05” model was always to be positioned somewhere between a “dress watch” and a “sports watch”.
So the addition of a chronograph movement and the corresponding features that come associated with such a complication, is a firm move towards a more “sporty” customer. Overall a standard evolution for many product lines that lead us to expect a GMT version in the foreseeable future. The stainless-steel case appears here in a 42mm option, which fulfills a much requested size adjustment from the previous 40mm. Beside the larger diameter this new model also comes with an exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement.
Design wise we have the iconic Bell & Ross circle in a square inspired off of aviation control decks, with exposed screws in each of the four squares corners. It also comes equipped with two push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions. Topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Equipped with a setting crown and a water-resistance that can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).Time is exhibited on either a black or blue dial with steel applied hour index markers and the Arabic numerals: 6 and 12. While circling around the flange is a ring of white printed minute markings with double-digit numerals for every 5-minute increment. It also features two sub-dials: a sub-seconds at 3 o’clock and a 30-minute counter aligned at the 9 o’clock position. These sub-dials appear in a lighter shade of blue with a concentric guillloche interior finish, There is also a small round date aperture placed between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions. The central steel hour/minute hands, hour index markers, and Arabic numerals have all been fitted with a luminescent coating. The blue dial option comes off as more nuanced, but the darker option is available for those that may prefer it.
