Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Turquoise Dial

At initial glance this new “Audemars Piguet Royal Oak” reminded us of the headline grabbing “Patek Philippe Tiffany Blue Nautilus” because of that turquoise hue. But while Patek was just a color, this AP is bearing a natural stone cut down to an accommodating wrist fit. This is a unique addition to the contemporary 37mm time-and-date models released last year with the new caliber 5900, which also allowed for a slimmer case profile.The 37 mm case is made of 18k yellow gold with a mix of vertical brushed flat surfaces and polished edges, while mounted by the iconic “Royal Oak” octagonal shaped bezel with exposed 18k white gold screws. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition case back, which allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. The gold oscillating weight is carved out in the form of the “AP” logo. Housed inside is the caliber movement that debuted back in 2022 with a slim 3.9 mm thickness.It also comes equipped with a screw-down crown adorned with the AP logo. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on a natural turquoise dial with gold applied hour indices, followed by a black printed minute track ring. Each selected stone cut in Mexico goes through a process of being sandblasted and polished down to a 0.75 mm thick disc, before getting fitted into a casing.Audemars Piguet is no stranger to using precious stones on their dials. Mother-of-pearl, aventurine, and lapis lazuli were other applied minerals in the past. But the combination of yellow gold with a turquoise stone is an all time first and now another addition to the very few non-tapisserie Royal Oak editions.The central gold hands and hour index markers have all been given a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a tone-on-tone date window at the 3 o’clock position.

The “Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Turquoise Dial” (Ref#: 15550BA.OO.1356BA.01) is powered by the made by Vaucher for Audemars Piguet self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 5900 with 29 jewels and 28,800 vph.
