Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin

Complexity confined within the “Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin” has returned in an all full titanium version. This was once the thinnest perpetual calendar, before being dethroned in 2019 by Bvlgari’s Octo Finissimo. But despite that minor setback this is still a marvelous watch in aesthetics and technical craftsmanship. The 41mm case is made of grade 5 titanium with brushed surfaces and polished accents. All these finishing touches extend onto the full titanium integrated bracelet and provide a very cohesive and solid look. Mounted to the case is AP’s signature octagonal bezel with a vertical satin-brushed finish and eight exposed screws. On the flip-side is a transparent exhibition case back, which allows a view of the inner workings of the mechanical movement. This is one of the thinnest self-winding movements with a perpetual calendar. To accomplish this feat AP placed the movement's perpetual calendar functions all merged together into one single layer with only 0.35mm in thickness, instead of using the three different levels approach of combining multiple complications. It comes equipped with a setting-crown adorned by the AP logo. All topped by a glareproofed sapphire crystal, which assists with water-resistance reaching up to 20 meters (65 feet). Time is exhibited on a blue dial with 18k white gold applied hour index markers, followed by a white minute track ring circling the flange. The full dial is characterized by a sunburst pattern, plus a smokey gradient effect that gets darker as it nears the surrounding periphery. There are three black counters with grained interiors and white markings (except for the 31st day of the month in red): current month at 3 o’clock (plus leap years), a date display at 6 o’clock, and a day indicator (plus day & night) at 9 o’clock. It also includes a Moonphase indicator at 12 o’clock with a star-lit dark blue sky and a silver moon. As long as the user keeps the watch fully wound, the perpetual calendar will not require a correction until 2100.The central 18k white gold hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
