Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar iN 38mm

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar iN 38mm

To mark its 150th anniversary, Audemars Piguet introduces two new 38mm Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar models that elegantly distill the brand’s signature complication into a more compact and refined format. Available in stainless steel or 18-carat pink gold, these are the smallest perpetual calendars ever produced in the Royal Oak line. Both metal options are offered in standard production and as 150-piece limited editions, each featuring subtle commemorative touches, including a special signature on the moon phase disc and caseback engravings. This launch follows the earlier release of updated 41mm models and continues the brand’s push to offer high complication in a variety of case sizes.
The 38mm case of the new Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar is crafted in either stainless-steel or 18-carat pink gold, while presenting a harmonious blend of compactness and luxury. It features a slender profile measuring just 9.4 mm in thickness, plus retains the iconic octagonal bezel with eight white gold screws and a vertically brushed finish. The case and bracelet are expertly finished with alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces, in line with the Royal Oak’s signature aesthetic.Turning the watch over reveals a sapphire crystal caseback that showcases the newly developed Calibre 7136. Surrounding the exhibition window is a frame that bears the engraving “150 years” and “1 OF 150 PIECES” on the commemorative editions, underscoring their special status. The rotor, visible through the back, adds visual interest while subtly reinforcing the brand’s 150th anniversary milestone. It comes equipped with a screw-down octagonal crown, which serves as the sole control mechanism for all calendar and time-setting functions. The case construction ensures water-resistance can reach up to 50 meters (165 feet), balancing everyday wearability with the sophistication of a high complication.
The dial for the Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar 38 mm showcases Audemars Piguet’s hallmark “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, achieved through a complex guilloché process. The stainless-steel model features a striking light blue dial paired with snailed subdials in matching tones, while the pink gold version offers a warm beige dial with tone-on-tone counters. Both variations preserve the visual balance and symmetry that define the perpetual calendar layout, with day, date, month, leap year, and moon phase indications neatly arranged.
Hour markers are crafted in 18-carat gold to match their respective cases: white gold for the steel model, and pink gold for the rose gold version, both paired with luminescent-coated hands that enhance legibility in low light. Black printed scales provide clear contrast for reading the calendar functions, especially on the light blue version, where the outer track and subdial indicators stand out crisply against the soft background. The moon phase display at 6 o’clock is given extra visual weight, with a deep blue sky and golden moon in both versions. In the 150-piece limited editions of each model, the moon phase disc features a special anniversary signature inspired by historical documentation. Despite the dial’s wealth of information, it remains elegant and highly legible, which is a testament to the meticulous proportions and layout of the perpetual calendar complication within the Royal Oak’s compact 38mm frame.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar

The new “Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar” 38mm (References below) is powered by the in-house self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 7136 with 35 jewels, and 28,800 Vph. This movement differs from the earlier caliber 7138 by omitting the week calendar function while retaining a full perpetual calendar display with day, date, month, leap year, and moonphase indicators. Power reserve can last up to 55 hours, when fully wound.Mounted on these watches is an integrated bracelet in either stainless-steel or 18-carat pink gold, secured by a folding clasp with AP’s signature double push-button release system. It echoes the classic Royal Oak aesthetic with its sharply faceted links and brushed surfaces, while enhancing the balanced proportions of the compact 38mm case.
