Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Carolina Bucci Limited Edition
It takes pride for all colors to find their place under the sun and when they do rainbows shine thru. That might have been part of the sentiment Carolina Bucci had while conceiving this brand new limited edition Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding watch. The iconic design invented by Gérald Genta back in 1972 is still turning heads after all this time, now wth the added touch of the renown Italian jewelry designer. The 34mm case is made in black ceramic with a mix of vertical brushed flat surfaces and polished edges. Mounted by the iconic “Royal Oak” octagonal shaped bezel with exposed 18k pink gold screws. On the flip-side is a sapphire exhibition caseback that allows a view into the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It features a 22k pink gold rotor decorated with microbead-blasted, polished and satin finishings. The titanium section of the caseback is engraved with the inscription “Limited Edition Carolina Bucci”.It also comes equipped with a screw-down crown adorned with the AP logo. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Water-resistance that can reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).Time is exhibited on a rainbow-colored sapphire crystal dial created by Carolina Bucci, with applied 18k pink gold hour index markers. All the spectrum of color while still featuring the iconic AP “Grande Tapisserie” motif, which is a pattern of small squares, obtained thru a hand guilloché. The brand also claims that the “pattern of iridescent colours varies from dial to dial, making each design unique”.In essence on a return glance this is the same dial we’ve all come to admire. But the added sparkle of this shifting array of rainbow colors adds another level of marvel. In her own words Caroline Bucci said “I wanted to place a rainbow in the most unexpected of places, a little like when you see oil floating on a puddle in a city street…So you have every colour of the spectrum on a canvas that is completely black, which is itself the absence of colour.”The central pink gold hands and hour index markers have all been given a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a black date aperture in the 3 o’clock position.
