Over a decade ago Audemars Piguet launched their first titanium “Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar”, as a limited edition of only 88 pieces. Then back in 2015 this iconic collection was updated by increasing to a 41mm diameter case and adding a week indicator to the perpetual calendar functions. Now all these characteristics meet again for an exclusive US release of the new “Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar” in titanium. The 41mm case is made of an ultra-light titanium with a brushed and polished finish, while mounted to the case is AP’s signature octagonal bezel with a vertical satin-brushed finish and eight exposed screws. These finishing touches extend onto the integrated bracelet and provide a very cohesive look. It enhances the watches wrist presence by maintaining such robustly defined aesthetics. On the flip-side is a transparent exhibition case back, which allows a view of the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Among various titanium gears, and purple jewels, is an openworked 22k gold rotor with “Côtes de Genève” finishes. It comes equipped with a setting-crown adorned by the AP logo. All topped by a glareproofed sapphire crystal, which assists with water-resistance reaching up to 20 meters (65 feet). Time is exhibited on a blue dial with the signature Audemar Piguet “Grande Tapisserie” pattern dial with 18k white gold applied hour index markers. It includes four grey-toned sub-dials with snailed interiors and white markings (except for the 31st day of the month in red): a date display at 3 o’clock; a Moonphase indicator at 6 o’clock; a day indicator at 9 o’clock; and finally the current month and leap year can be observed at the 12 o’clock position. It also encompasses a blue rotating inner bezel with a combination of even numbers and dots for the odd numbers that mark out the week indications. As long as the user keeps the watch fully wound, the perpetual calendar will not require a correction until 2100.The central 18k white gold hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
