Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer”

Audemars Piguet has a rich history of collaborations with music icons, going beyond mere ambassadorships. Following the recent launch of the chocolate ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar "Cactus Jack" with Travis Scott, the brand now unveils a collaboration with artist and watch enthusiast John Mayer. Introducing the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar "John Mayer" Limited Edition 26574BC, a modern reinterpretation of the classic Tuscan dial perpetual calendar. This timepiece holds historical significance, notably with its calibre 5134.The 41mm case with a 9.5mm height is made of 18k white gold with brushed surfaces, casebands and contrasting polished bevels finish. Mounted to the case is AP’s signature octagonal bezel with a vertical satin-brushed finish and eight exposed screws. On the flip-side is a transparent exhibition case back, which allows a view of the inner workings of the mechanical movement. It conceals the caliber 5134 which makes its last appearance before getting swapped out for a new movement. Introduced in 2015, the 5134 caliber adapted the perpetual calendar to the classic 2120 base, maintaining a slim profile of 4.3mm. However, with the release of the 16202ST Jumbo featuring the newer caliber 7121, it seems fitting for AP to consider updating the base of the perpetual calendar models, concluding a significant chapter in the brand's history. It comes equipped with a setting-crown adorned by the AP logo. All topped by a glareproofed sapphire crystal. Water-resistance can reach up to 20 meters (65 feet). Time is exhibited on a PVD blue “crystal” dial with 18k white gold applied hour index markers, placed over a stamped texture inspired by the vintage Tuscan dials. Since this is a special limited edition instead of the classic signature Audemar Piguet “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, we’re given this star motif to honor the musician John Mayer. There are four blue sub-dials with snailed interiors and white markings: a date display at 3 o’clock; a Moonphase indicator at 6 o’clock; a day indicator at 9 o’clock; and finally the current month and leap year can be observed at the 12 o’clock position. It also includes a blue inner flange with a combination of even numbers and dots for the odd numbers that mark out the week indications, which are pointed out by a light blue hand. As long as the user keeps the watch fully wound, the perpetual calendar will not require a correction until 2100.The  central 18k white gold hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
